So I've really been slacking...like royally been slacking on my blog. Oopsies. Let's see:
Friday:
Anna and I met Charis at the Hauptbahnhof to try and get tickets to Paris...and they were outrageously expensive because we waited til the last minute to buy them...so unfortunatley we didn't get to go :(. I was really upset about it, but I talked to Mom and others and everyone kept telling me that its not the end of the world. I'll get to go to paris soon. :( Afterwards, I came back and had plans to hang out with Charis and her roommates and go to this Indian dance party, but Charis and I decided we just wanted to stay in and watch movies. So we hung out in my room in pjs and watched The Holiday which was FANTASTIC as usual and ended up falling asleep around 12:30ish.
Saturday:
We woke up and met at the Hauptbahnhof at 12 to go shopping in Mannheim for the day! It was me, anna, charis, jesse, kayla and nelly. It was REALLY fun! I really like Mannheim! I got a green shirt from H&M and a necklace with green beads and such. Then we came home and had plans to meet Becca and Judith at the Wartburg to go out that night. So around 9ish Anna came over and then realized she left her ID at home so we had to trek back to her apartment to pick up her ID. That was an experience. We got there all safe and sound and then grabbed her ID and walked out and I noticed the #23 S-bahn just chillin in the street so we ran and climbed on board, and Anna goes "oh no...I think this is the wrong one!" so we got off and as it started to pull away Anna goes "CRAP! It's the right one!" so we RAN to the next station to get back on the same one that we had gotten off of. haha! Then we ran into Charis at Bismarckplatz and she came with us to the Wartburg! We met Becca & Babs at the Wartburg and the five of us decided to go out! So we went to this really authentic German resturant/bar on Hauptstrasse (don't remember the name) but it had the long wooden tables and I had my first official beer in a bar. I got a Pils and it was REALLY good! Then we went to Coyote a bar on Hauptstrasse because they were having a Jagermeister Party! It was INSANE!!! We walked in and there were boys dancing up on the bar shirtless, the bar was PACKED and for the first time since we've been here they were playing AMERICAN music!!! It was FANTASTIC!! We walked in while they were playing "My Humps" and I went insane ;) (luv u lots :) ) We went up to the bar and ordered drinks and this guy bumped into me and said "excuse me" and started talking to me when he realized I was also an American. He's a 18 yr old from Robinson High School in Fairfax (we play them in sports back home!) His dad was transferred to Heidelberg so he wasn't going to graduate from Robinson, but what a small world! Then we left him and made our way to a table in the corner and spent the rest of the night dancing and having an AMAZING time! I really like Becca & Babs! :) After dancing we were hungry so we went to Big Pommes for french fries! SO good!!!! Then, Anna Charis and I went home. It was by far one of the best nights in Heidelberg :)
Sunday:
I woke up and worked on our group project with my group at AJY then came back and watched some Dawson's on my computer, did homework and went to bed.
Monday:
I woke up and went to class. It was Saint Patrick's day so Anna and I went to look for a green shirt on Hauptstrasse because Becca & I were gonna go out and celebrate, but we couldn't find anything so I resorted to buying the most adorable pink shirt :) Then had dinner and had the BEST surprise! PAT CAME HOME!!!!!!! So I went to the Wartburg to hang out with Becca and Pat :) Got home late and went to bed!
Tuesday:
Woke up for class from 8:40-3:30 because we went to see an exhibit on the Sinti und Roma in the Holocaust. It was really really well done and the tour guide only spoke English but was really engaging and made sure we understood what she was talking about. I got really emotional/upset and was kind of down for the rest of the day. After the museum Dr. Tracy took us on a tour of the University Museum/Library/International Studies offic and then Anna and I got to meet Pat's parents...FINALLY! :) His dad is really nice and his mom seemed really sweet, but I sort of assumed that since they raised such an amazing kid. Then Anna and I parted ways and I went to the Hof for some essentials before coming back to make dinner/get ready for a night with Judith at Mohrs!! Kayla, Charis, Dan and Peter came over for dinner and I made a Pasta in a garlic butter sauce and got REALLY bad heartburn from it. :( So I met Anna at Bismarckplatz and was trying so hard to just push through it. We got to the Wartburg and I saw Judith and basically told her I just couldn't go. So she said that was fine and we ended up sitting in the kitchen talking with Judith, Becca and Pat. It was fun, but I felt really bad for being such a big "party pooper". I ended up going home early because I felt so horrible and I got on skype to talk to Mom/Uncle Alan/Dad/Sarah. Then went to bed.
Wednesday:
Still had horrible heartburn so I skipped class to stay in bed and sleep all day. Slept until 2 and then got up and had a bagel for bfast before I got on skype to talk to Mom and then read. I had to write a paper, so I wrote my paper and then went back to sleep. It was nice to have a day to literally do nothing.
Thursday:
I woke up and had class from 8:40-12ish. LAST DAY OF CLASS!! WOOO!!!!! We reviewed a little and then got chocolate for Easter and then LEFT!!! Anna and I went to the Mensa and ate lunch with Jeff & his bro who was visiting, Brett & Dan. Then I went to Ziehank and bought a copy of Great Expectations in German so that I could possibly expand my comprehension skills and then came back to talk to Mom on skype. Talked to mom then Anna came over and we watched some Dawson's. She left to go to Stuttgart and I got ready/ate dinner before heading to the Wartburg to meet Judith for our Thursday night cocktail date! We left and went to Coyote since they were having an Angebot. I really like Judith. She's slowly becoming one of my really good friends here. We sat and talked all in German for a solid 3 hours before leaving the bar. We made plans to spend Friday hanging out and I went to Hard Rock to meet Dan so I didn't have to go home alone. We stayed at Hard Rock for a little while and then went home.
Friday:
I slept until 1 and then woke up and watched a LOT of Dawson's because I just didn't want to get up. Dan and Peter came over for Spaghetti and then I met Kayla at Bismarckplatz and we went to the Wartburg together. We walked in and Davor was there!! So we hung out in the living room talking with Becca and Davor and then Judith came home and at some pt Alex and his friend Will from home walkedin from the bar totally drunk. It was HILARIOUS because Alex is a really shy and quiet guy until he starts drinking haha. They wanted to play frisbee so we all trudged outside and walked to the field infront of the Mensa and threw a frisbee around before going back to the house and warming up. Dan and John came over and then we all left to go to Big Pommes and head back home. It was really fun!
Saturday:
I had plans to go to the Zoo with Becca and I really wanted to get up and try to get onto the Military Base, so I woke up around 10ish and got ready and headed towards the base. It's across the bridge from me, and it took about 10 minutes to walk there (if that). I got there and the guard didn't speak English (weird!) and tried to scan my card. Well it didn't work, so he took me to the head of security who spoke English and apparently I have to get registered here so that they know I'm technically here and allowed to be on base. Well, he let me on anyway and I went to find the PX. Its HUGE!!! It was SO nice to be around all Americans and hear everyone around me speaking English!! I spent a while browsing and was pissed at myself for only bringing 30.00 because everything was so cheap! I ended up getting facewash pads (Aveeno! Thank GOD!), pens and pencils for school, TIDE laundry detergent!, a big thing of tums, and Halls throat losenges (i figure once I get a sore throat I'm not gonna want to try and find those here). Then I came back and talked to mom on skype for a little while and then left to meet Becca & Davor at the Zoo!!! The Heidelberg Zoo is AMAZING!!! We saw Bears, Lions, Tigers, Flamingos, Kangaroos, Donkeys, Goats, Sheep, Elephants, Monkeys, Gorillas, and SO many other things!!! We got to feed the goats too which was SO fun, other than when the one goat bit my butt. That wasn't so cool. He saw that I had food in my hand and that I wasn't feed him because he wasn't a little one, so he nipped my butt! Mean goat!!! We had a GREAT time at the zoo and made plans to cook dinner/go out later that night! I went home from the zoo to shower/get ready and then headed to the Wartburg to meet Judith's boy and his friend and to cook dinner with Becca. We made Swedish Meatballs (YAY Sabina!) and they were SO GOOD!!! Then we hung around for a while and eventually left to go to Coyote with me, kayla, becca, davor, alex, will, judith and her boy and sophia. It was really fun but I got a really bad migraine while we were there so it wasn't as great as it could've been. Altho Judith's boytoy was really sweet and kept telling me that my German was really good which makes me feel a slight bit better about it haha. Afterwards, we left and went home.
Sunday:
Becca, Davor and I decided to have a movie night. So I woke up and did ALLLL of my laundry with my TIDE :) mmmm! Then made Easter dinner for me, jesse, kayla, dan and peter. We had pasta with alfredo sauce that had sauteed garlic and onions in it. It was SO good! Afterwards I took the S-Bahn to Bismarckplatz and when I was on the bus to Warburg Katie D called me!! YAY!!! First time I've talked on the phone with anyone from the states! It made me miss her sooooooo much!!! Then I got to the Wartburg and Becca gave me my easter present :) She bought me a chocolate bunny! It was so adorable!!! We watched this bad japanese/German kung fu movie and then spent the rest of the night talking/watching this magic show on TV. Around 12ish Davor took me home which was really sweet. He didn't want me to walk from the tram stop to my apartment alone even tho I've done it a zillion times. He's adorable. Then I got on Skype and had "easter dinner" with Mom and Dad and then went to bed.
Monday:
I woke up and did absolutely nothing all day. I met Anna and Kayla at Raja the Indian fast food resturant at 6 and then came back and did nothing all day again. It was fabulous!
Tuesday:
Woke up SUPER early because its DSH DAY! Woo! Not! Went and took the 4 hr exam. I think it went alright, but I really don't think I passed. So we'll see. Afterwards, we went to the Mensa for lunch and this crazy homeless person asked all of us for 50cents and since we pay with a mensa card we didn't have any $ to give him so he got really pissed off and threw his magazine at Dan. So we left and quickly. Then at 2:30 I had my course scheduling meeting with Dr. Tracy. It made me really miss my meetings with Tita. Those were usually 5 minute discussions on courses and 30-50 minutes just talking. I really miss seeing her on a more frequent basis. :( Well, because I'm an English major Dr. Tracy is letting me take as many English-major courses (ie. lit, crw courses, lang) so I'm planning on taking 3 lit courses and a crw workshopping course and then a couple random ones like Holocaust through Film and maybe German Pop Music, we'll see! After my meeting I took the tram home with Dan and then had plans to go to Becca's for dinner! So Anna and I went to the Wartburg around 6:30 and made this AMAZING baked pasta dish..mmm! Then we watched Madagascar with Davor, Becca, Judith and Babs! Afterwards we went to Coyote again with me, Anna, Becca, Judith, Davor and Uwe this really weird guy who lives in the Wartburg... we had a really good time despite the fact that it was BLIZZARDING outside! We stayed until 12:30 and since there aren't any late night buses during the week, we had to walk back :(. Dan met up with us so that I didn't have to walk alone, and the two of us walked Anna all the way home and then continued on our way home.
Wednesday: Today!!
Today I had plans to go shopping on Hauptstrasse with Becca so at 12 I went to Bismarckplatz so I could hit the bank and then grab coffee before picking Becca up from the Wartburg. We walked around a bit and she showed me her favorite Chinese shop and the famous candy shop in Heidelberg! Then we went clothes shopping :) We went to H&M and I got new Jeans (i know...but i need them!) and a really cute black cardigan to go over colored tanks so I don't have to always be so 'dressy' when i go out. It was necessary. Then we walked around a bit and she took me to Ditsch a bakery that has pizza and such and it was SO GOOD!!! We really get along well! She's pretty fabulous :) Then I took her back to Wartburg so she could get ready for work and hung out with Judith for a while and then went home around 5ish when I ran into Dan & Davor!! We made plans to do dinner at my place and they came over around 6:30ish and I made Alfredo sauce with Pasta b/c we had left over stuff and I'm leaving in two days and didn't want my milk to go bad while I was gone. Anna came as well and we hung out in my room for a while which was nice. I really like Davor, he may be one of my favorite guy's here. Then they left and I got an IM from Katie D telling me to update :P so, thats life so far! I leave for Sweden on Friday and I am UNBELIEVABLE excited!!!! I can NOT wait to see Sabina!!! It's going to be UNBELIEVABLY amazing :) :) :) :)!!!! Then I get back just in time to celebrate Judith's birthday on April 3rd and leave for Berlin on the 4th-6th and then classes start on the 7th! Kind of an insane couple of weeks but it's going to be so worthwhile :)!! Tomorrow I get to go on a tour of the University so I know where my classes will be held, which is nice and that's all I have planned other than Cocktail night with Judith :) Hopefully I'll get to see Charis since she's been gone in London for the weekend and then...SWEDEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Next time I update will hopefully be after Sweden, but potentially after Berlin! So I apologize for the long gap! I miss and love you all so very very much :)

Somebody Take Me Home...
So I've really been slacking on this whole posting thing. Life here has gotten kinda crazy.
Let's see...
Saturday Post-posting:
Right when I got out of the shower, Charis was knocking on my door. I quickly got ready and she took me shopping in Heidelberg!! She is truly amazing. We took the S-bahn to Bismarckplatz and we stopped first at Star Coffee which turns out to be very similar to Starbucks altho cheaper and you can mitnehmen which is FABULOUS (ie. take it with you) so we got Mochas and we began at H&M on Hauptstrasse. She showed me where the sales racks are and such and we went from store-to-store basically showing me which ones were good to shop in and which ones to simply look/skip. We went into a bunch that I LOVED. Zero is GORGEOUS it reminds me SO much of Banana Republic! We shopped for a while and eventually made it into this jewelry store that reminded me a lot of the jewelry store on Melrose in Cali. The walls are literally lined with necklaces/bracelets/earrings and the center is filled with tables that have bracelets/earrings/headbands/basically anything accessory-wise and it was pretty cheap. I got a really awesome wooden necklace, earrings to match (that are a tad radical but Charis forced me. apparently I've been missing the 'crazy earrings' memo haha and these gorgeous silver drop earrings. It was a really fun store!! Then we ran into Becca, Alex, and Davor on Hauptstrasse. Running into people I knew made me really really happy. It's like I'm finally starting to 'live' here! We decided to meet Alex and Davor at Charis's favorite pommes(french fries) resturant for pommes and drinks at 6 and continued shopping. Hauptstrasse is so cool!!! They have all these musicians that perform in the middle of the street or magicians and other types of acts. Charis and I watched a man who had 6 dogs do tricks with his dogs. One walked across a ladder, the little dachsaund(sp?) jumped over the back of HUGE black mut. It was pretty cool, altho the dogs looked absolutely miserable which broke my heart. There was black dog that was SO CUTE and looked like a terrier-mut and all I wanted was to pet him and cuddle him because he had his tail between his legs and just was so so sad. It broke my heart... we continued on and stopped at AJY for a little while where we ran into a couple of people as well as Katie Wolfe who was visiting for her spring break. She was an AJYer this past Fall and missed Heidelberg so much she bought a ticket to fly back here for her Spring Break-haha. So she went to pommes with us! Anna meet us for Pommes and we all had a really good time. They were really good pommes, altho Loni's are SO much better. haha! Afterwards, we came back to Ringstrasse and got ready for our "girls night"!!
Kayla & Jesse came over around 8ish and we hung out in my room before leaving at like 9:30ish! On the way to Untere-Strasse we stopped at the Wartburg to use Pat's bathroom and then made it to Ipunkt!! Ipunkt was PACKED. Literally packed. So we pushed our way to an open area and bought drinks and tried to get into the music. They play the weirdest music here... we got tired of it and wound up leaving and headed for Tangente where Pat & Becca took us a few weeks ago. We got there and they didn't open until 11, so we had to kill time for 20 minutes. The bar next door was open, so we went there and Charis/Kayla/Jesse ordered drinks while Anna and I had Leitungswasser (tap water). We made it to Tangente and they were having "Disco" night...which we were NOT into. So we stayed for an hour and then went back to Ipunkt which turned out better. We got there and they were playing Sweet Home Alabama and then eventually made it to Backstreet Boys (EEK!) and the West Virginia song that people go INSANE to here. We learned a super cool German dance to the song Cowboy und Indianer which apparently Uli knows as well (haha) and after a while we left and came home. It was by far the best night going-out wise in Heidelberg!!!
Sunday:
I had a TON of homework to do and a meeting at AJY with my group for a project at 2:30ish. So Anna and I went to Vivo (the coffee place from friday night) and did homework/drank coffee while we waited until our meeting at 2:30. After our meeting, we met Kayla at Raja for Indian food (mmm butter chicken and basmati rice!!) and then I came home to do the rest of my homework/go to bed early. Uneventful.
Monday:
We had class from 8:40-2:30 for lunch we had a break from 12:30-1:30 and we FINALLY ate at the MENSA on Uniplatz!! IT WAS SO GOOD!!!!! I had Schnitzel mit Pommes for 3 euros and a slice of Apfelkuchen!!!! Oh my GOD is the food better here!!! And it was fun to finally be surrounded by German students. Then after class Dan, Peter, Anna and I rushed back here to meet my Hausmeister for our laundry tokens. We FINALLY got our laundry tokens and were THRILLED...CLEAN CLOTHES!!! WOO!!! So Anna and I made a Hof trip for the week (I finally sat down before hand and made a list of what I wanted for lunches and such. Made it so much easier than having to walk the aisles searching for things.) and then since Pat was leaving the next day, we had dinner the three of us. I made fajitas (i know, right!? I'm becoming such a cook! go figure!) and they were AMAZING. Germans don't use mexican seasoning so I just kind of experimented...and it turned out really well (or at least, the three of us thought so). I love when it's the three of us. It makes me so so so happy... so Pat left around 8ish and Anna and I did the dishes before she left and I did homework before going to bed.
Tuesday:
We had class until 12:30, then went to the mensa again and then I came back to my apartment and did laundry-FINALLY. It was QUITE the experience. The machines don't even come up to my hips and they hold less than half a load that Elon's washers can hold. Fucking ridiculous. AND it costs TWICE as much as it does at Elon. AND the dryers don't work-apparently, I didn't risk the token because I had only bought 6, but Charis told me not to even bother. So I used the drying rack I bought at the Hof to hang dry all my clothes. (This was my first real-omg I miss Elon, experience). After doing laundry, Anna came over and we cooked dinner with Dan and Peter. When I say we cooked, boy did we cook!! We made bratwurst, pasta with alfredo sauce, breaded zucchini sticks, grilled onions and mushrooms and fresh bread. The table was literally covered in plates. RIDICULOUS. But boy was it all delicious!!! After dinner, I did as much ofmy hw as I could and passed out.
Wednesday:
We had class from 8:40-2:30ish and my group had a big break from 10:15-1:30. Not quite enough time to go home, so we stuck around at AJY planning our group project for the week and figuring out times for stuff. We ended up finishing that REALLY early so I was able to use Peterzahlt.de to call my Mom for 15 minutes and then Anna and I sat down and bought our tickets to SWEDEN!!!! WOO!!! We're leaving March 28th-April 2nd!!!!! I can NOT literally can NOT wait to see Sabina!!!! A familiar face, that's not a heidelberg face, is going to be so so so so so nice. Plus, I simply miss that girl!! Afterwards, we had a meeting about courses here and then I came back and relaxed, made myself tortollenis that made me really really ill and went to bed at 8.
Thursday:
I woke up and felt really sick still but pushed through it and went to class. Had class from 8:40-12:30 and then went to lunch at the Mensa with Dan and Anna before coming back to my apartment and relaxing/showering/getting ready to meet Becca at 6 for dinner. We met at Rossi, the resturant on Bismarckplatz where she works, and had a really good time. I hadn't spent time with just her, Pat or Anna or both have always been around so I didn't really get a chance to get to know her and last night was really really fun!! We were there until about 8:30ish and spent the whole time talking in English/German. She's really funny and we have a lot in common (she too owns over 20 pairs of jeans-SEE IT'S NOT JUST ME!!). I'm starting to be really glad that I have "other" friends outside of AJY. It's nice to get away from the same people for a little while. I can't wait until Pat & Judith come back from Urlaub(vacation). It's really weird without Pat here. Afterwards, I came back to my apartment and found a sticky note from Theresa on my door that said Charis had stopped by so I climbed the one flight up and knocked on Charis's door. She came downstairs and borrowed a movie (Love and Basketball-:) Mere :) ) and we ended up talking for an hour before she left, making plans to get together tonight and do something fun!!! I'm really glad because Anna's sick with a cold and I'm in the mood to do something "different". Becca invited me to dinner with her and a bunch of the Wartburg people at this really nice Chinese resturant but its between 20-50 euros a person and I'm not really up to paying that much, altho part of me feels that it'd be a really good experience and opportunity to meet those people outside of Patrick...but I don't think I can really afford to pay that much, especially if it ends up being 50 euros a person... so we'll see. I probably will bail on that and simply do dinner here. I bought myself maultaschen at the Hof so maybe I'll make a cheese sauce or something with those :) I'm meeting Charis at 5 to buy Paris tickets for next Thursday, unless they're outrageous expensive. I'm really hoping that we can get there for a decent price and get to see Aunt Patti & Uncle Richard...but we'll have to see.
I had my first experience of really and truly being homesick this morning. Last night I dreamt that I was at Elon and it was my first time back after being abroad and I saw Jackie working some type of table in moseley and I ran up to her and gave her this huge hug and she goes "Do you not notice who's standing right here???" And I turned and Kir was there and we shrieked and I was elated to be back at school and then my alarm went off and I realized I was 3000 miles away from everyone. It was really rough... but I got up and went to class and did well on a test (hopefully!) and had lunch at the Mensa with almost the whole group, so hopefully if I keep just trudging on it'll stay really good here and I'll have a few tough times that aren't that terrible...but I miss everyone from Elon so so so so so much and it makes me so sad that it's so hard to actually keep in touch with everyone since the time difference is so drastic. I sent a few people letters last week and it was INSANE how expensive it is to mail a letter to the states...which also makes me really sad...I'm a HUGE letter person and I sent Pat & Uli a ton of letters over fall sem, but since it's so expensive mailing letters here to home just isn't that realistic :( Tomorrow i'm supposed to go shopping in Mannheim with Kayla & Jesse and then we're making Garlic-Broccoli-Penne and Apple Pie for dinner and then Judith comes home and I'm going out with the Wartburg girls!!! YAY!!! So this weekend should be really good. I need to find time to write/workshop Kir's poem because I've really been slacking on that (Im SO sorry, Kir!! I LOVE YOU and I PROMISE I'm going to get to it!!) Well, I guess that's basically it. I miss you all so much it hurts!!!!!! I'm contemplating starting a mass-email, because I'm not quite sure how many people actually read my blog...so if you want to be added to my listing let me know. I know how annoying it is to get random mass-emails so I don't want to be one of those people that bugs you...so please, send me an email/fb message or comment on here and let me know if you want to be added to my mass email. I love you so much :)

When The Sun Goes Down
Tuesday:
I woke up and went to class and we got out at 12:30ish. Pat showed up and asked if I wanted to do coffee just him and me so we agreed upon meeting at 2:30ish because I had to run some errands with Anna & Jesse. We went to Woolworth for essentials (such as a mirror for my room and more school supplies) then we went to PennyMarkt to buy more bottled water. I really miss Elon's Dasanis... anywho at 2:30 I met Pat at Extra Blatt on Hauptstrasse :) We sat and talked until 4ish because I had to be back to work on hw with Nelly & Jesse at 4:30. It was SOO good finally getting me and Pat time. I've really missed him... we hadn't had anytime just us so it was really nice being able to catch up. I truly adore that boy. Afterwards, Jesse and I spent a good hour and a half working on our hw before I came back to do dinner with Anna, Peter and Dan. Peter made beer-wursts and pasta and grilled onions with mushrooms. It was really good. Then I came back and got on SKYPE to talk to Sabina and plan my spring break trip out there!!! I still have to buy my ticket but I'm def doing Spring Break in SWEDEN!!! How freaking cool is THAT??!?! I can NOT wait to see her!!! It's going to be SO fun!! I'm also looking into doing Paris March 21-24th with Anna & Jesse since Aunt Patti and Uncle Richard said it was ok to bring two people :) :)!! I can't wait for my little jars of Yogurt hahaha! So after talking to Sabina for a while I finished my hw and went to bed.
Wednesday:
Woke up and had class from 8:40-10:15 then we had a "cultural outing" where my group (Me, Peter, Dan, Anna, Tara & Justine) went to the Social Services/Adoption office for Heidelberg and had a meeting with the NICEST woman I've met here. She barely spoke English so we all had to speak German to her which was good and she was so sweet!! Every group had to do some type of cultural thing and we by FAR got the best one. It was really interesting listening to her talk about how adoptions work in Germany and how foster-families work as well. They have this thing called "Foster-Day parents" where instead of day-care if you can't find a place for your child, a Foster Day parent would take care of your child and gets paid by the government so that the parent doesn't have to leave their kid at home alone. Kind of cool! So we did that then at 12 we left and I came back and talked to Pat online and decided we were going to go shopping on Hauptstrasse. So Anna and I met Pat @ 2:30 and we explored all the little stores that we pass by everyday. You'd be proud tho, I didn't buy a SINGLE thing! WOO! Tried stuff on in H&M but didn't buy any of it! I think I'm doing pretty well ;)! Haha afterwards, Pat took us to a chinese resturant and we had an early dinner. Then we went back to the AJY center because Anna had to meet Sarah before her Latein Tanzen and Pat & I hung out there until 7ish when we went to Rohrbacher Strasse to hang with the rest of the AJYers. That started out alright, but kind of...dramatic by the end of the night. Everyone wanted to go to a bar, but Heidelberg doesnt have any bars that can handle groups more than 6 and we had 14...so it just got to be a bad situation. We ended up going to Mohr's and some people left and Jesse stormed out pissed, so our group fell down to only 10. It ended up being a pretty good time. I had my first Strongbow in honor of Kir :) and agree..it's pretty amazing! We stayed until about 11ish and then made our way back home.
Thursday:
AJY took us to FRANKFURT for the day! We got to Frankfurt around 10ish and made our way to Goethe's Haus. We toured his house which was kinda cool and then broke for lunch. We found a fastfood place that had the most AMAZING pommes (french fries) ever and schnitzel that was eh...and then Anna and I made our way to Starbucks to sit in the warmth because it was FREEZING outside. Then we toured the Rathaus (mayor's home) and the catholic church (talk about being uncomfortable...) and then we were "free" to do what we wanted for two hours. So Anna, Dan and I walked back to the train station and sat in a little cafe for the rest of the time. Afterwards, we got back to Heidelberg at 6:30 and Anna and I got ready for a Girls Night Out with Judith! We met her at Wartburg at 9:30ish and then went to Extra Blatt on Hauptstrasse for 4.00 cocktails and sat and spoke German the ENTIRE time. She's definitely my favorite German that I've met here in Heidelberg. She reminds me a lot of Sammy which is pretty cool! And her dreams to be an elementary school teacher too! Funny ;)! So we talked until 12ish and then said goodnight and went back to go to bed.
Friday:
Woke up and had class from 8:40-12:30 then met Pat for lunch at his place! He cooked us these ravioli type things (Maultaschen I think is what they're called) and it was REALLY good!! Then we hung out with him for a bit talking and throwing these juggling balls back and forth before Anna and I went to Aldi for dinner supplies. I love all this time we've been spending together. It makes me really really happy. :) So Anna and I got chicken breasts and pasta and cheese and zucchinis and I made stir-fry zucchinis and onions and chicken-alfredo! Pat & Rebecca joined us for dinner and it was really fun. I'm still trying to get used to this whole "cooking every night-adult life" it was as if this was my real apartment and I was having people over for dinner...it was really weird haha. Then Pat & Rebecca left and Anna and I got ready to go out with Charis, Kayla, Alex and Jeff. Peter & Dan ended up joining us and we all went to Charis's favortie coffee shop that turns into a cocktails shop at night. There wasn't a sign outside so I don't remember the name but it is definitely my FAVORITE place in Heidelberg!!! It's exactly what I was looking for and the waiters there...omg...soooooo HOTT!! Italian and young! The perfect coffee shop for writing inspiration ;) haha! So we stayed there until about 1ish and then made our way back home.
Saturday:
Today I woke up around 12ish which was AMAZING. I made myself scrambled eggs and have just been relaxing for a while. My plan is to go back to the coffee shop with my notebook and start writing again. I haven't had the opportunity to write in a really long time so I need to get back into the habit. Then tonight Anna and I are gonna throw dinner together and we're having a GIRLS NIGHT OUT with Kayla, Jesse, Charis and potentially Nelly. We're going to Ipunkt which is the bar that everyone who does the WT/Summer Term here goes too...so we figured we'd test it out! I'm excited to just have it be girls night...we need to get away from some of the boys for just a little while at least... so we're doing that and then tomorrow I have to do laundry/homework :( but so far this weekends been pretty fantastic :) :)! I miss and love you all so so so so so so so much!!!!!!!
Love,

Who You'd Be Today

This is the hallway. Kitchens to the immediate left. My rooms across from the first door in this picture. Notice the poster with the male model who has a hole for a crotch. Talk about weird.

This is my kitchen! It's really cute and tiny! And we pay 5 euros a month for a group pot of onions, Garlic, potatoes and spices which is really nice.

This is my desk area :) I haven't taken a decent picture of my bed/reading area yet, but as soon as I do it'll be up here as well :) But yes...this is where I do work and skype :) Looks a lot like my desk at Elon ;)! Haha!
Freitag:
So I woke up and had class from 8:40-12:30 and took my first test. It went pretty well and I felt fairly confident about it. Phew!! After class a bunch of us went to Ginos for lunch and had Doners which are kind of like greek Gyros...really good! I had lunch with Duckie, Tara, Jason and John. People I dont usually eat with so it was really good to talk to some people I don't spend so much time hanging out with. Then we had our "group" project to work on which consisted of going to Justine, Tara, Anna, Peter, Dan and my rooms and taking pictures and creating a powerpoint where we would then infront of the class discuss our "rooms". Retarded. So we decided to spend Friday after class at Justine's Wohnung take our pics and go on our merry little way. So we took the pics and then Anna and I went to Pat's to kill an hour before I had my meeting with Dr. Tracy. So we hung out with him and Rebecca and watched "NEXT" on MTV...the first TV show Ive seen in over a week...ugh. We decided that we'd have our first dinner together in Germany that night so Pat and Rebecca gave us a list of food to buy at the Hof while they went running. So Anna and I went back to AJY and I had my meeting with Dr. Tracy. I basically told him I wanted to spend time working in a Kindergarten here in Heidelberg and I'd like to figure out a way to join some type of Creative Writing class/group something because I feel really lonely without my little group here... so he said he'd look into it and see what he can come up with and he also told me he'd look into a Hillel type club for Jesse and I which could potentially be a lot of fun! Especially if I go with her. So that went well. Then afterwards, I came back to my room, showered and talked to Mom before going to the Hof with Dan, Peter & Anna for supplies. We bought potatoes, ground beef, tons of cheese packets/sauces and had NO idea what we were going to be eating but it only cost us each 3 Euros so it wasn't too terrible! Then we went back to the Wartburg. Rebecca decided to cook the potatoes BEFORE peeling them which was definitely NOT the way we do it back in the states...it was SO weird because as soon as they were done, we had to then "peel" them with a fork and knife. Talk about weird... turns out we were making "Mommy Pie" or Shepards Pie... and it was REALLY good. Rebecca added some type of Wurze sauce which was REALLY good. Plus it was fun to cook with Pat again altho it was more watching this time haha. He and Rebecca really have a system down...its almost cute in a vomity way :P. Afterwards we played Mario Cart and hung out before going back to my apartment to get ready to go out for the evening. We ended up going upstairs to get Charis to go out with us which was FANTASTIC :) and then went back to Pat's again!! We played Kings with Jesse, Kayla, Peter and a German and had a really good time before trying to go out. The whole going out thing ended up being a bust because our group was WAY to big to get in ANYWHERE all of us...so we, sadly, didnt find anything to do so Charis, Dan and I went back home around 1:30ish.
Saturday:
I woke up and played around on the computer talking to people before actually getting up and starting my day. Around 12:30 Jesse came over and we waited until Anna called saying her Oma and Opa were here! We met Pat at Bismarckplatz and went to a little Cafe on Rohrbacher Strasse where we met Anna and her Grandparents who ONLY speak German. It was fun they reminded me a lot of Nanny and Popsie :) We had coffee/cola with them for a little while and then when we left Oma gave us all "Berliner"s (sugared donuts with jelly haha) and Opa gave us little chocolates shaped like Ladybugs. It was SO cute!!! Then Anna and I had to finish our dumb group project so we went to Tara's room followed by Anna's, Peters, Dans and then mine. Ugh. Afterwards, we went to the Hof and bought fixings for dinner! We made Schnitzel, Pasta with Alfredo Sauce, and Stir-fry Zucchinis and Onions and Garlic!! It was so good that I ate more than I EVER should have. BAD decision. I fell asleep around 7:45ish and didn't wake up until 4 in the morning with a HORRIBLE stomach ache. Ugh. I ended up talking to my sis online for a while and then watched a couple episodes of Dawson's Creek before going to bed. I HATE waking up with stomach aches...its an awful feeling :(. Anyway, I woke up around 11ish again and then started my day off with homework/iming before a meeting at 4:30 with my group to finish our project. Anna and I went to Mandy's an American Diner about a block away from my apartment. Its SO cute! Its a lot like Ruby's in California except its inside a TRAIN CAR!!!! And they take American Cash!! Woo!! It was SO weird being in a resturant that EVERYONE spoke English in. Even the kids running around were speaking English. Home-away-from-home haha! Then I came back here and talked to Mom/Dad/Uncle Bob and went to bed.
Monday:
Today I had class from 8:40-2:30ish. We got our tests back and I got an A!! YAY!!! We're learning the Passiv tense now which is just retarded. As an English writer I don't see how this is useful altho we shall see I suppose. I'm not very good at this Passiv voice thing :-\ Well, we had to give our presentations today and everyone laughed at the weird poster that is hanging on the wall in my hallway...so that was good at least haha! After our presentations we had a meeting about "Culture Shock". Never in my LIFE have I had to sit through more RIDICULOUSLY boring and pointless meetings that the past week! We all had "Culture Shock" meetings while we were in the states at our home schools and today was basically a repeat of everything that was said there. I think I understand that sitting alone in your room 24/7 is a bad sign or that crying everyday is also a bad sign. I mean, I'm definitely experiencing some culture shock in the sense that I'm not all "gung-ho" speaking German, but I am definitely not upset or sad about being here. I love it here!! Ugh. Dumb meetings. Afterwards I ran to the bank because I literally had 7 Euros to my name and had to eat dinner some how!! I also was aiming to meet my Hausmeister in his Buro but I can't for the love of GOD figure out how the hell to get into his office. UGH! I need to buy Waschen Tokens to wash my damn laundry but he holds the WORST hours EVER. So I'm aiming to go right before class on Wednesday. Ugh. Afterwards I came back and talked to Mom for a while and then watched Dawson's with Anna before dinner at Mandy's again haha. We were craving American burgers/fries and milkshakes so we went again. And now, I am officially done with all my hw and am contemplating going to bed by 9:30! WOO! A solid 10 hours of sleep!! Tomorrow we're done at 12:30 which means a trip to Pennymarkt, Kaufhof and Woolworth for more things I need. So yes, thats my life these past few days...rather uneventful!! I still have yet to wear my adorable gray boots :( it's been raining here since last Thursday...I'm getting kind of tired of it... I miss Elon's gorgeous weather!! And I also miss my ROOM in Elon a lot. My Mitbewohnerin are really weird...I SWEAR they don't do ANYTHING during the day except sit in their rooms watching TV or sleeping or cooking bizarre food that causes the ENTIRE apartment to stink. I can NOT wait until it's Me, Anna, Kat & Tori next year and then potentially me on Kir's sofa in her and Brandons apartment :P Its slightly funny that I'm more pumped about being back at Elon than being here in the moment...I wonder if that's going to change once this whole "orientation" crap ends. I also have decided that I hate the fact that drinks here are ridiculous expensive. And I also hate that all the water is Sprudel...I like Sprudel but come on...it just can't quench thirst like Dasani at Elon... ugh. Alright, well I'm gonna end this one cuz it's kinda long. I may add pics tho if I can figure out how too!! :) MISS YOU ALL SO SO MUCH!!!
xoxo,
Becca
