From Hillbilly Heaven to Honkytonk Hell...

OFFICIALLY JULY!!!!! BEST MONTH---EVER!!!!!

Tuesday July 1st:
I woke up and had my presentation for Novel To Film from 11-1. We went, did our little class presentation and then sighed with relief when it was over with. After class, I went to AJY for our Vollversammlung (meeting) from 1:15-2ish...then went to the mensa with Anna and Jesse afterwards. After lunch, I got an ice cream and then had to book it home in time to get my stuff to bring with me to American Short Stories. It was over 90 degrees...there is NO air conditioning ANYWHERE here in Germany, so I sweated to death the entire 25 minute ride to class. NASTY. I got there and Gaja and Sarah were already there so we talked about how damn hot it is and then class started. We had class, and then afterwards I took the bus with Gaja and her boyfriend into town and then went home. I got home and worked on my presentation for the following morning and then went to bed at a reasonable hour.

Wednesday July 2nd:
I woke up and had my other presentation from 11-1 as well. I had to go to AJY to print off my notes so I left early and made my way towards the AJY Center. I got there, saw Anna and Kayla and had a meltdown while the printers refused to print my notes. Dr. Tracy attempted to print them himself-but he's a moron and can't fix anything electronic so it was just wasting time until he decided to print them from his computer-thank god. So then I ran to class and Jesse/Manuel and I did our presentation. The professor (who really doesn't deserve that high title since he doesn't really do shit) told us it was the best presentation he's seen (woah) and had the class grade us. The rest of the class couldn't come up with anything bad to say so they gave us a 1.3 which the "professor" said wasn't high enough but because it was unfair for him to adjust our grade and not everyone elses, he stuck with the 1.3. To me, that was totally fair because here anything in the 1 range is an A. So I was happy! So after class I went to AJY to see what was going on and ran into John so I hung out with him and we had plans to do dinner together that night anyway, so instead of waiting three hours we went grocery shopping and then came back to my place and started preparing and just hung out. I really like John. He's a really nice guy and he's always interesting to talk to. So while we prepared and cooked and talked I cleaned up and then Kayla showed up around 5:30ish and John had made Borscht and Fruit Soup. I decided that I really dislike borscht but I'm a fan of fruit soup, so that was okay. Then Pat came over to hang out for a bit and have dessert with us and we all hung out in my room for a while which was fun and around 9ish they all left to go home.

Thursday July 3rd:
I woke up and had my last day of praktikum. I got there at 8 and was given half the class (with Hanni and Martin in it!) and told to play a game with them while the other half went to the library. So we played a Lion game where three kids get sent out of the classroom and I pick one kid to b the lion and the three kids come back in and have to go up to whichever kid they think I picked and say "Good morning, Mr. Lion" and if its not the kid I picked, they respond with "No, I'm Mr. _____" It's apparently something that helps with their English skills. So we played that for an hour and then the teacher came back and had me sit and wait for the other half and after almost an hour of waiting for the other half she came back and said they didn't want to leave the library, so she sent me home. She gave me a calendar of Heidelberg and some coconut candies and thanked me for coming in and helping out. So that's the end of that. I'm glad I got to see Hanni and Martin but I'm not upset about having to stop going. Im glad I can sleep in on Thursdays/Fridays again. After praktikum I came home and did laundry/showered/cleaned and packed a box and then Judith/Alex/John/Fab picked me up and drove me to the military base to mail boxes. Oye. Alex had 5 boxes FILLED with books. John had 2 boxes of shoes/books. And I had one box of clothes. So because they can't go on base, I had to carry all 8 boxes-by myself-from the start of the gate into the post office building. WHAT a pain in the ass. AND let me add-it was raining. UGH! So I get them in there and then get told I have to fill out customs forms for all of them with specific details as to whats in each box. Retarded. So I do the best I can and then go back to the counter. THEN I get told that I can't mail anything because I don't have an APO address. So now I have to take all the boxes back outside and figure out a way to get them home-since Judith was on her way back to Mannheim.. Fuck. Well, this really sweet lady, Debbie Brown, heard me on the phone with John and told me I could use her APO mailing address. How sweet!! So she helped me out and we got all the boxes mailed and readdressed and done. So after 2 hours of dealing with bullshit...it was officially done. Thank goodness. So then I had to run to catch the Strassenbahn to get to Starbucks on Uniplatz by 3:00 to meet Sophia for coffee. I had 15 minutes. Great. So I booked it in the rain to the strassenbahn-got on-took it to Bismarckplatz-grabbed the bus and made it with 2 minutes to spare. Unreal. Then Sophia and I had coffee for a bit-which was really really nice. I really like her and I know Im gonna kick myself for not having spent more time with her when I had the chance. So we talked and then I had class at 4, so I left. I went to Pop Musik and then after class went to Creative Writing. In class, Pat sent me a text and asked if I wanted to hang out just us that night after class so I said sure. After retarded Crw Class I met Pat at Uniplatz where it started to rain. Great. Pat rode his bike, so he decided he'd 'race' the bus to see who got to the grocery story fastest. HA! So being my crazy best friend, he kept "revving" his bike and looking at me while I was on the bus...retard. Then Ines got on the bus (a Portugese girl from my crw class) and we talked for a while, which was nice and then at the Hof I got off and walked-through the torrential down pore to the Hof, where surprisingly I beat Patrick. I grabbed spaghetti sauce and then we made the three blocks walk home int he pouring rain. Nasty. Then I made spaghetti and meat sauce and we talked for the a while and hung out. It was really nice having it be just the two of us, we hadn't had that in a really long time. There are definitely times when I truly adore that boy. I'm so glad he's my best friend. Then Pat left around 11ish and I went to bed.

Friday July 4th: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AMERICA!!!!!!
I woke up and got ready for the AJY 4th of July party!!!! I showered and decided to blow dry my hair...then I was rushing and decided I should trim my bangs...and instead...I FREAKING CUT THEM. O.M.G. THEY'RE SO SHORT. Great. Then I met John at Romerkreis Sud to catch the 24 and we met Anna on the tram and we took it to Burgstrasse to meet Frau Heckmann who then took us in her car up the mountain *WOOHOO* She took us to the place where our AJY 4th of July grillfest was. We had cheeseburgers and chips and Alison brought cake and Jeff made his famous brownies and it was DELICIOUS!!!! We had a really good time and then around 4, Kayla/John/Davor and I went shopping for our JOINT 21st Birthday CELEBRATION/4th Of July BASH!!! We got tons of liquor to make a cooler of sex on the beach and a bucket of Gin & Tonic! After we went shopping, we took the tram to the Neckarweise and walked to the Grillplatz so that we could grill the sausages and stuff that we bought. We set up shop and John made the alcoholic concoctions!! It was a TON of fun!!! It was me, anna, davor, pat, becca, babs, fab, kayla, john, dan, eric, jeff, peter, Jesse, Ryan, and best of all Sophia came!!! Woohoo!! So it was a pretty solid group of people!! We were there til about midnight when Anna, Dan, John, and I walked back to Ringstrasse. John was too tired/drunk to walk home alone so since I had Brittny's air mattress in my room I let him crash for the night. BAD DECISION!!! Boy does that kid SNORE!! Ugh. So I had a good time trying to sleep and kept waking him up which wasnt fun for him and yeah...so that was my fourth. Probably one of the best 4th of July's Ive ever had :)

Saturday July 5th: WHITNEY'S ARRIVAL!!!
Woke up and John and I made breakfast. I had eggs and toast and he made himself a grilled cheese--haha. Then around 12ish I kicked him out and walked to Hauptbahnhof to meet Whitney! She came out and it was really good to see her :) We went back to my apartment and then decided to walk Hauptstrasse for a bit before meeting Becca and Pat for Eis. We had to put money on her cell phone and such and shopped a bit and then around 3ish met Becca and Pat. We went and had Eis (YUM) and then walked to the old bridge and hung out there for a while. After that we walked to Rudis and bought food/stuff and then parted ways so we could go home and Whit could run before we had to be at the Neckarweise at 8. Afterwards, we went to the Hof bought alcohol and grilling food again and then walked to the Neckarweise--same spot as the previous night. Everyone from the previous night came back and Pat brought his radio with batteries this time so we had music. It was really fun :) We made sausages and ended up just hanging out and talking until about 1ish. Then around 1, I grabbed Whit and we ran to catch the moonliner (night time bus) to head back to Ringstrasse. We got back, talked for a little while and then went to bed.

Sunday July 6th: Paper day...joy.
Today I woke up and Whit and I got ready and headed over to Kayla's for breakfast. She and Jeff made pancakes, french toast, eggs & bacon. They had tea and juices and müsli and all kinds of good stuff! It was me, whit, john, peter, kayla and jeff. Super fun!! We ate and ate and ate and then cleaned everything up and went back home at around 2ish. I had a meeting with Jesse around 3 to discuss our 8 pg paper for Novel To Film and then while Whit napped, spent the rest of the day writing my part of the paper. Joy. Afterwards, we made dinner (salmon and rice, and Whit had rice and beans) and then were lame and I kept writing while she read before bedtime. So far it's been a really good weekend :)

French Kissing Life...

Saturday June 14th:
So John and I went to the Hof and got stuff to make dinner and made the most amazing chicken-curry with basmati rice ever!! Then afterwards we went to the Kleiner Mohr and watched the Sweden-Espana game!! Espana won! woohoo!! Then we stuck around for the Russia-Greece game and Kayla/Jeff and Eric joined us. We hung out there for a while and then walked back to my apartment and I went to bed.

Sunday June 15th:
I woke up and worked on some stuff and putzed around all day. Nothing exciting.

Monday June 16th:
I woke up and dragged myself to Starbucks to write. I got there and a story idea came to me. I sat there for over 4 hours punching out word after word, it was fabulous!! Anna came halfway through and talked to me for a while and then left again and I continued writing. Then I went home and made myself something for dinner and watched a movie and went to bed.

Tuesday June 17th:
I woke up and went to class. After class I went to AJY and had lunch and then went to class from 4-6. After class I RUSHED back to my apartment for a aim date with KIR!!!! We talked for over 4 hours online. It was UNBELIEVABLY amazing :) I miss her SO much its ridiculous. We caught up on almost everything and it felt so good to just know that she's as excited about me coming back to the states as I am... I really miss her... then I went to bed around midnight-ish.

Wednesday June 18th:
I woke up and had class from 11-1 then went to AJY and met Anna for lunch at the mensa. We sat in the mensa from 1ish until 4 and got kicked out and sat on the fountain in the middle of Uniplatz until 5:30ish. I ended up crying for almost the majority of the time and it was good because we hadn't actually talked in quite a while. Then I left and went to the hof to get stuff for dinner and came back home to eat dinner. Then around 8:30 I headed over to the Central Pub to try and watch the Espana soccer game, but because they were automatically advancing the Pub wasn't going to play that game when Russia-Sweden was more important. Damnit. So I sat there with Anna and Kayla for about an hour and then headed back home and went to bed.

Thursday June 19th:
I woke up and went to Praktikum. The kids were pretty bad and didn't want to do their activity so I sent them back to the classroom and left around 10ish. Then I came home and showered and went to starbucks to read for a while. I started feeling kinda crappy while I was at starbucks. Then I went to Pop Musik and went to Creative Writing and Audra said she was leaving early so I told the professor I had to leave early too. The Germany-Portugal game was being televised on Uniplatz so I met Anna/Kayla/John/Davor at Uniplatz for a while and Pat/Becca showed up for a few minutes and then they left...and about 15 minutes into the game I went home. I got home and called Dad at work and talked to him for a while, then called Mom and Sarah who were in LA and then went to bed.

Friday June 20th: MARGARET'S WEEKEND IN HEIDELBERG!
I woke up and told praktikum I couldn't make it that I was sick. Then around 1ish I went to hauptbahnhof and picked Margaret up!! We came back to the apartment to drop her stuff off and then made our way to the Altstadt. We went and had coffee at my favorite little coffee shop and then went to AJY to send emails/find out about dinner plans from other AJYers. Anna was the only one free that night so we decided to eat around 5:30 so that we'd have time to make it to the Turkey-Croatia soccer game. So Margaret and I left and went to the Heidelberger Zuckerladen with Alison and that was really fun!! We didn't get anything, but we helped Alison play the game! hah! Then afterwards we walked up and down hauptstrasse searching for Kinder Eier couldn't find any so we sat down and listened to a street performer. Then around 5:30, Anna met up with us and we went to the Schnitzelbank for dinner. I had TWO big schnitzels and a HUGE plate of Bratkartoffeln. DELICIOUS!!!!!! Afterwards I felt really crappy again, and we went to Mohrs to watch the game with Kayla/Jeff/Cece. We sat there until after 11 because the game went into over time and then to "Piekeys" (sp?) and in the end Turkey won. Damn. That meant Germany would be playing Turkey next... after the game we walked back to Bismarckplatz and went home to sleep.
Me, Anna and Margaret outside of Schnitzelbank after our FABULOUS dinner!

Saturday June 21st:
We woke up, got ready and headed to the bakery down the block to get breakfast and then made our way to the Zoo! We met Anna/Jeff/Cece/Kayla at the Zoo. We spent a good amount of time at the Zoo and I got sick halfway through. Then around 4ish we came home and went to the grocery store because Margaret's cousin and his girlfriend were coming over for dinner. So we got stuff for dinner and then came home and I took an hour nap and felt worse when I woke up. Not a good sign. Her cousin came and Anna made spaetzle for dinner and then they all left around 8ish. I told Margaret I wasn't feeling well, so we went to the Hof and got junkfood and came back and had Kayla over to watch P.S. I Love You. Then Kayla left and I stayed up the entire night because I couldn't sleep. Fabulous.

Sunday June 22nd:
I was SO sick. Margaret woke up and went to the PX to get me meds...and then went out with Anna to see the rest of Heidelberg, while I slept. Margaret left around 5ish and then Anna came back and made me dinner. Then Anna left to watch the Espana soccer game and I tried to sleep. Around 11ish I started panicking and had Anna come back over to keep me company. Well, I ended up getting ridiculously sick... not good. Anna took SUCH good care of me. She's truly an angel... around 3am I finally fell asleep.

Monday June 23rd:
I slept until 12ish and then continued to sleep/watch movies the rest of the day.

Tuesday June 24th:
I woke up and went to the doctors at 11. I got seen at 2:30 (joy) and he took blood because he was worried that my glands were swollen and I was constantly tired. After the docs I went home and slept for a while and then had a meeting at 6 at AJY. I went to my meeting and then came back home-made soup and went to bed.

Wednesday June 25th:
I woke up and had class from 11-1, then had lunch with Kayla and Cece. We went and had sushi which was really yummy and then afterwards I had a meeting at 2 to finish my presentation stuff with my group and at 3 I had coffee with Maressa. We had a great coffee date and at 4:30 I met Anna and went shopping for Kayla's birthday gift. I got her stuff from LUSH and then went home to shower/get meds for Anna who was now sick (crap) and then rushed to meet Anna at Mohr's for dinner. We had dinner at Mohrs and then were joined by Jeff/Cece/Kayla/Nelly to watch the Germany-Turkey game. Germany won which was SUPER EXCITING and we walked back to Bismarckplatz with the entire group and met up with Pat and the Wartburg group-which was awkward. Then around 12, Anna and I walked back home and I went to bed.The four AJY girlies at Mohrs watching the Germany-Turkey soccer Semi-finals!! It's Nelly, Kayla, Anna and me.

Kayla and me after Germany kicked Turkey's butts!! Woohoo!

Thursday June 26th:
I woke up and felt HORRIBLE. I slept maybe 4 hours and simply couldn't sleep anymore. So I skipped praktikum and ended up sleeping until 11 after being up from 4-6. I woke up and had to get ready to go to Paris that night. I felt awful all over again tho...it was horrible. I went to the PX to get medication and then met Kayla/Anna for Kayla's birthday lunch. After lunch I came home and skipped my classes and slept the whole time. I woke up and made pasta and choked it down-then began to pack. Halfway through packing, Whitney called me from Italy!!! We talked for an hour which was AMAZING and then said goodbye for a little over a week! Then I finished packing and went to Hauptbahnhof with Charis to head to Paris!! We had decided we'd take the bus with Eurolines because it was 50 euros round trip-dirt cheap! So we were supposed to be picked up 9:45...but the bus pulled in at 11. Fabulous. We got on the bus and I took an Advil PM and slept the whole way.

Friday June 27th: PARIS!!!!!
We pulled into Paris at 6:18 and got off the bus and had to find out way to Aunt Patti's. We got in line for the metro and bought tickets and took it to the very last stop and got off. We got off and waited about 5 minutes and Aunt Patti showed up! We walked from the stop to the apartment and talked the whole time-it was great. We got there and Aunt Patti went to get fresh croissants for breakfast. I was feeling HORRIBLE so I asked if she had tea and she made me green-tea and honey and I must have drank a million cups all day. Well David came down and I got to see him for 5 minutes which was nice, but Ben was sick so he wasn't going to work that day. So David left, we had breakfast and afterwards we were taken to David's room where two beds were waiting *sigh* and we slept until 1:15. Then we got up and each took showers-in a REAL shower! It was FANTASTIC!!! Altho I have to say that the bed I slept in was the best thing about the entire trip. It was the most comfortable bed I have EVER slept in. Hands down. After I got ready, we went down to have lunch with Aunt Patti who was home on her lunch break. She brought the BEST ham&cheese sandwhiches Ive EVER had and I must've eaten a TON. It was so delicious. I had more tea and then we went up to check on Ben. He emerged and we talked for a few minutes and it was really good to see him :) Then Aunt Patti left and we talked to Ben a bit more and then we left! We walked to the 82 bus and took the bus all through Paris. It was a gorgeous ride. We got off at Tour Eiffel and were legit under the Eiffel Tower!!!! We walked around the Eiffel Tower took our pics and then walked up to the Trocadero to take more pictures of the Eiffel Tower. It was so strange being up there, I had these intense flashbacks to running around the Trocadero with Ben & David in our light up sneakers when we were 4 and 5 years old. It was so strange. Then Charis and I took the metro from Trocadero to the Champs Elysee to go shopping/see the Arc de Triomphe! We got off the metro and watched some street performers for a while and then went to the Arc de Triomphe to take our pictures. Afterwards, we walked the Champs and window shopped. We bought ourselves Starbucks for 4.70 euros (Talls mind you...RIDICULOUS) and then went to the infamous Sephora! Charis bought somethings and then we decided we were exhausted and headed back home. We took the metro to Pont de Neuilly and didn't have directions to get home-so I decided I could figure it out and led the way. We walked along the Seine River and eventually got to number 68 :) I had done it!! We walked in and Aunt Patti was there setting things up for appetizers. She had bought amazing cheeses, baguettes, Foie Gras, and other things. SO GOOD! Then Uncle Richard got home and we all moved into the living room to talk. THEN we got to call my FAMILY!!! It was SO good to talk to my parents on the PHONE. Gosh I miss them. Then while Aunt Patti was talking to my Mom, Uncle Richard pulled out all the old photos and we looked through them. He was amazed at how much I remembered from our previous trips to Paris and when they visited us in Germany. Afterwards we hung out in the living room for a while and then Aunt Patti made steaks and melon for dinner. We ate around 8:30ish and then sat down to watch some TV while we waited for Margaret to show up. We got to watch AMERICAN BASEBALL!!!!!!! Granted it was the Cubs vs. White Sox...but still! It was baseball and I flipped out. Then around 12 Margaret showed up!!!! We talked about our plans for the next day and then went to bed.
The Eiffel Tower up close and personal! It had a ring of gold stars on it, not sure why, but it was definitely more amazing in person than I thought it was going to be.
The Arc de Triomphe! Simply gorgeous :)

Saturday June 28th:
We woke up at 8:30 and all tumbled into Margaret's bed. Too lazy to get up right away we laid there giggling for a while and then got out of bed and each got ready for our busy day. We went down stairs and Aunt Patti had fresh croissants, eggs, yogurt, fruit ready for us. Amazing. Then She gave us 3 tickets to the Louvre!! Free! Omg! We left the house around 10 and walked to Pont de Neuilly and took the Metro to George V. We got off and looked for Deutsche Bank...they didn't have an ATM so then we went to Barclays on the champs and walked all the way down through the Champs and through to the Tuileries and through the Tuileries and made our way up to the Louvre. We stopped at a Paul's sandwhich stand, got our sandwhiches and ate sitting outside the Louvre. Then we already had tickets so instead of standing in line, we walked straight through. Amazing. We spent over 3 hours in the Louvre looking at so many things. It was all unreal. It was really powerful simply being in the Louvre. I'm not a big art museum fan but everything in the Louvre was extremely famous and here I was, a 20 year old, standing looking at things that were thousands of years old. Unreal. Of course we visited Mona...and Napoleon's apartments...and then around 2:30ish we left to go get coffee. We walked down Rue de Rivoli and got coffe at Palais Royal Cafe and got hit on by the waiter which was fun and then went shopping down Ru de Rivoli for a while. Then around 5 we headed back home. We got home and had until 6:30 to get ready to go out that night. We got all ready and then went to dinner with Aunt Patti and Uncle Richard. They took us to this amazing steak and frites place where you don't even order you simply say how you like your steak. Then they bring you a plate of steak and frites (fries) and the steak has this amazing green sauce covering it. YUM!! Then the BEST part...YOU GET SECONDS!!! Needless to say, we were stuffed. So we ate and ate and ate and afterwards we got up and decided to walk through the Left Bank a little. They took us all over the left bank-through the Latin quarters and made our way to the Notre Dame where we got to take our Notre Dame pictures and go inside for a bit. Then they took us across the bridge to their favorite ice cream place (YUM) and we had ice cream and watched some street performers and then they walked us back through the Latin Quarters to the bar that the boy told us to go to "Long Hop". The walk with my Aunt and Uncle was by FAR the best part of the entire trip. They took us to all these cool places-but the best was Shakespeare & CO. Its a tiny bookstore thats the PERFECT bookstore-its truly a paradise. The even cooler part is that the owner, George Whitman, decided that his bookstore would be a place for aspiring writers and renowned writers to have a place to rest their heads if needed and a place for reference books to look through and write if they need it. So the room above the bookstore part is covered in floor-to-ceiling bookshelves filled with THOUSANDS of old books dating back to the 1800s and the walls that aren't covered in books have notes from authors who've written there. Hemingway-being one of them. The bed that they slept on is still there as well. HOLY CRAP! It was unreal. I felt like crying...but I kept it together. Uncle Richard really knew where to take me... So at around 11 they dropped us off at Long Hop and headed home while we attempted to get in the party mood. We walked in-realized it was too early and went for a walk around trying to figure out where to go first. We couldn't find anything so we went back to Long Hop and got a drink. They had Strongbow on TAP! So we all got a Strongbow and sat in the bar that was SWELTERINGLY HOT for about an hour. It had the potential to be a cool bar-but we were there too early, were too tired and didn't know anyone. So around 12 we left and went to the Trocadero to take pictures with the Eiffel Tower at night. We did that and then headed home. Got home around 1:30ish and went straight to bed.
Charis, Margaret and me in front of the Louvre!!

Margaret, Charis and me in front of the Seine river and Notre Dame!THIS my friends, is Shakespeare & CO. UNBELIEVABLY AMAZING.

I kinda like this picture of the Notre Dame :)

Sunday June 29th:
We woke up around 8:30 again and got ready to head out. We had fresh croissants waiting for us (unreal) and figured out how to get back to Shakespeare & CO. We took the metro there, got out and walked around the Left Bank. We went back to Shakespeare & CO and took pics/bought a t-shirt and then continued through the Left Bank shopping for things. It was gorgeous out and we enjoyed the time we had. Then around 12ish we went back to pack and get ready to leave. We said goodbye to Margaret right when we got back...sadness...and then Charis and I had lunch with Aunt Patti who brought back fresh ham and baguettes and veggies/fruits. Then she packed us dinner for the bus and we packed our bags and around 2:30 we left. :( She walked us back to the Metro and then we took the Metro to the bus station. We got on the bus and took the bus all the way back and got home around 12am. Amazing weekend...truly amazing.

Monday June 30th:
Today I woke up and showered/got dressed and went to meet Jesse and Manuel at AJY at 1. We did our powerpoint for Wednesdays class and then around 4pm I left AJY and went to the hof to get food for the week. Then I came home and uploaded my paris pictures on Facebook and then went to class at 7. We didn't have to stay so I came home and updated my blog-talked to my sister and am now getting ready to go to bed early so that I don't relapse and get sick again. I'm desperately trying to figure out a way to go back to Paris-although we'll see if it'll work out...I only have 21 days left officially which makes me SO HAPPY but also sad that I may not be able to go back to Paris for a 2nd time. But we will see. Whitney comes on Saturday and I am SO excited!! Then she leaves on the 11th after my birthday! After next Thursday the 10th (my 21st!) I'll officially be done with ALL my school work-which is SUPER nice. Thank god. Then it's...HOME!! I can't wait to talk to all of you in person or via cell again. I miss you all SO SO SO much!!!! Love love love!!

Xoxo,
Becca

On The Coast of Somewhere Beautiful...

Wednesday June 4th: ESPAÑA TRIP!!!!!!!!
I woke up around 7ish, straightened my hair and finished packing then went to AJY to make copies of my passport/visa/drivers license and tell Heckmann/Tracy we were going to Spain for the weekend, just so someone knew. Then I went to Sbux to get myself a coffee and got on the bus to head back. Fab from the Wartburg got on the bus and sat next to me and it was the first time we've ever talked. He's a cool kid :) We talked all about Spain and how excited I was and how much I was gonna have and then we got off at Adenauerplatz and took seperate trams home. I got home, grabbed my bag and headed to the Hauptbahnhof. I met Jesse there and then Kayla showed up. We boarded the bus that would take us to Frankfurt Hahn! We rode that bus for almost 3 hrs then got to the airport and got a few pastries before Kayla and I said goodbye to Jesse and boarded our plane. We got to Spain around 5pm and had to figure out how to get from the airport to the Hostel. So took the Metro to a stop, got off and then took a bus right to our hostel! We checked in and were assigned to room 14 beds 8 and 9. We took our stuff upstairs and there were three boys in our room already. We said hi and they looked at us weird and didnt respond so we were like uh..ok? and dropped our stuff off and then headed out to explore! We walked up and down Plaza de La Reina and then made our way to Plaza Ayunmeinto which was GORGEOUS. We settled for a place around Plaza Ayunmeinto and had our first Paella experience! Oh my god...I think I'm in LOVE with Spanish food. I had Paella Valencia (their signature!) with Chicken and Rabbit and altho I'm not a big Rabbit fan...the rest of it was FABULOUS!! I'm hooked. Afterwards we walked around a little bit more trying to find the grocery store that was apparently near the Hostel, and then went back to our hostel and afterwards went back out to get a cider at a bar on Plaza de La Reina. It was more like Champagne than cider...but it was still good and we were able to catch a few minutes of the Espana-USA soccer game that was on TV. Then we went back to the hostel and went to bed.

Thursday June 5th: The Food Market and La Bolseria!!
We woke up and Kayla went running and came back and said there was an awesome market we had to go to so we got ready and headed over there. We stopped and got a pastry at a little shop and then went to the food market. It was by FAR the coolest thing I've ever seen-food wise. It was a HUGE market where they sold literally EVERYTHING from fresh meat to fresh veggies/candy/breads/fruits/cheeses/etc. We walked around and got another pastry and then decided we'd do a stirfry for dinner. So we tested out Kayla's minimal Spanish and got a bunch of veggies from this one lady for less than 3 EUROS! SO SO SO CHEAP!!! Then I went and got a chicken breast from one of the meat ladies. It was the BIGGEST chicken breast I've ever seen. And it was only 2 euros. So then we left and walked around trying to figure out where the grocery store was again and ended up walking down their main "drag" for shopping instead. We walked in and out of stores and found their version of Kaufhof or Macys and in the basement was a grocery store (Woo!) so we did some more shopping for breakfast essentials and such and then went back to drop all the groceries off at the hostel. We decided we may as well attempt to go to the beach so we got ready and headed towards the buses. Thats when we saw the grocery store that's closest to the hostel! Woo! So we went to the beach and sat there for maybe an hour then it got over cast and we decided we should head back before we got SOAKED. So we went back and took the metro back to our area. We got off and went to the grocery store and bought bread because we were STARVING. Then went home and cooked dinner! Our dinner was UNREAL!! That chicken was by FAR the best chicken I've had in a really really long time.

After dinner we napped for a little while and then got ready to go out. We decided to test out a place called La Bolseria which we had heard from a book was really good. So we went downstairs around 10ish and asked where it was located. They said since it was pouring it would be better to take a cab and so we went outside and for the first time in my life-I hailed a cab! haha! We got in and the driver took us there and it was 5 euros for the whole ride which wasn't bad at all. We got out of the cab and walked in and the place was SO cool. It was decorated in a Bohemian (sp?) theme. it was about 10:45 when we got there and it was DEAD. Apparently the Spaniards don't start to party until really late. So Kayla and I ordered a drink and sat and talked for a while. Thats when we noticed the bartender. HOLY COW!!!! I have never.in.my.life. seen someone so attractive. He was the sexiest person I have ever seen. Holy shit. Tall-dark-Spanish-fit-put together-scruffy..mmm! So Kayla and I tried to talk to him a little and it failed because he only spoke Spanish *sigh* and we only spoke English and German. So we simply sat and stared. I swear there was drool. Then around 1ish people started to arrive-thank god. We hung out for a while but it was kinda lame, so we left and went to another bar down the street called Radio City. We got kinda turned around and lost and ended up exploring more of Valencia and then made our way to Radio City. We walked in and it was the total opposite of La Bolseria. It was grungy and dirty and smokey and the people weren't dressed up at all. They were in jeans and torn tshirts and greasy. So we walked around to see what it was like and got stopped by these three guys. One spoke horrible English so we attempted to talk but it was pretty discombobulated. The one who spoke a little English was Paco...and one of the other ones was Nacho (no joke) and we can't remember the 3rd ones name. Paco kept trying to get me to dance with him and I simply said no. He ended up burning my arm with his cigarette (still have that mark..) and his 3rd friend kept asking Kayla to "you...kiss...me?" hahah. The best part was that halfway through the conversation Paco began to roll a joint in the middle of the club (WTF?). So we made up some excuse about our parents needing us back at the hotel and left. Sketchy. We took a cab back to the hostel and went to bed.

Friday June 6th: THE BEACH!!!!!
We woke up and had breakfast and then put all our beach stuff on and headed to THE BEACH!! FINALLY! We laid out on the beach all day and around 4ish we headed back to the hostel to nap. We slept until 8ish and then got up and headed to the grocery store to get stuff for dinner. We came back and made pasta and tomato sauce with mushrooms/onions/garlic. Then we showered and got ready and had Sangria and met these two new girls in our room who wanted to go out with us! yay! So around 12ish we headed outside-hailed another cab (yay) and told him La Bolseria!! We got out and they were having a really fancy party...who knew! So we were clearly under dressed but they let us in anyway and we ordered drinks from ANOTHER hot bartender and walked around the room. The music was UNREAL and they even had a sax player playing along with all the popular music which made it SO much cooler!! It was PACKED so we found a spot to squish the 4 of us and we danced for a while. I got hit on by a weird kid in a jacket and then all of these OLD men kept hitting on Kayla and me. Apparently in Spain even in your 50s you're still able to get into the clubs that 20-30 year olds go to..gross. So we stayed there for a while and then decided to try Radio City again (not sure why?). We went to Radio City and walked around for a while and the other two got drinks. Kayla and I went to the bathroom and while Kayla was peeing I watched as a girl started lighting a crack pipe. (WTF!) So I grabbed Kayla and dragged her out of the bathroom. I told her we had to get out of there and explained why and the girls drank their drinks and we left. We got in another cab and asked to go to Piccadilly and he had no idea where we were talking about so he took us home and we all went to bed.

Saturday June 7th: BEACH and PAELLA!
We woke up and attempted to go shopping. We were searching for an outdoor market that sold clothes/jewelry/accessories...but all we found were shopping malls. Valencia is FILLED with shopping malls-its ridiculous. So we ended up going to the beach and laid out for a while and then tried again to see if there was any "beachy" shopping...nope just another big mall. So we bought Spanish ice cream (not as good as German eis) and then headed back to our hostel to nap for a little while. We enjoyed our little Siesta and then headed out to go to dinner. We decided we'd spend money going out our last night on one more Paella. So we went to a really cute place called El Rall. It was in this tiny courtyard and they had out door tables and a man playing a violin and we got seated inside by the door and ordered a big Paella Valencia. It came out and was SUPER delicious!! We ate and talked and decided we were way to tired to go out again so we agreed to go home after our paella. We enjoyed the resturant and then around 12ish went back to the hostel. We got there and ended up talking to these two Australian girls who were now in our room. They were Sarah and Kate and they've been traveling the world for over 5 months! They had just gotten there from South American and were spending the next few months traveling Europe! How cool!! We talked to them for a little while and then went to bed around 2ish.

Sunday June 8th: OUTDOOR MARKETS, HIPPIES AND KEBABS.
We woke up and had to be out of the hostel by 11am. So we got up, showered, got ready and had breakfast and were checking out by 10:45ish. We left our bags in their luggage room and walked around taking pictures of the city. We ended up stumbling upon an outdoor market like one we'd been SEARCHING for the whole time!!! I got an amazing Spanish skirt, scarf and finally got one of the Espana bags :) Kayla got Aladdin pants (haha)! Then we walked around some more and stumbled across ANOTHER outdoor market!! SO AWESOME!! We ended up talking to these really hippy people and apparently in Spain in order to sell your homemade crafts you have to have a special permit and the government wouldn't give these people the permit so they were "boycotting it" and selling their things anyway. So of course to support them, Kayla and I bought a ton of stuff. I got a really cool necklace made of wood, a bracelet thats pink/green and Kayla bought a necklace for her gma, a bracelet that matched my pink/green one, earrings for her best friend back home and a headband. Talking to those people was probably the best part of the trip. They were the only ones that spoke English and they were so down to earth and friendly and wanted to share their stories. Then we went into the main market and Kayla bought a purse and we bought Falafel Kebabs for lunch that were delicious! Then since it was close to 3 we headed back to the hostel to get our stuff :(. We took the metro all the way back to the airport and headed back to Frankfurt Hahn. It was SO sad to leave Espana. I wanted to simply stay. It was UNbelievable there. I've never been anywhere that I've wanted to spend so much time in before. I will definitely be going back. We got to Frankfurt Hahn around 8 and took a bus to Mainz hauptbahnhof and then took a train from Mainz to Heidelberg and got back around 11:30. Sabina was here with Anna so they met me at the hauptbahnhof and Sabina and I came back to my apartment to start our mini visit :)! We stayed up until about 2 talking and then went to bed.

Monday June 9th:
Sabina and I woke up and went to the Apotheke to get her cough meds then went to have lunch with Anna and the mensa. After lunch we walked up to the Castle! We took tons of pictures and walked around for a while and then headed back down the mountain where we ran into Francois who suggested we do the Student Prison. So for 50 cents we got into the Student Prison and walked around that for a while. Then I took her to the Old Bridge so we could get pictures of the front of the castle and eventually had ice cream with Anna and made our way to the PX so I could stock Sabina up on American meds and make up haha. We decided we'd cook dinner for everyone so we got chicken breasts, rice, and stuff for a salad. We got home, relaxed for a while, and then began cooking. We cooked the chicken breasts in onions/garlic/white wine and then Sabina made her one of her famous salads yummm! We had John/Dan/Davor/Anna over for dinner and then afterwards went to the Central Pub to watch the Netherlands/Italy Soccer game. Afterwards, we came back and hung out with John for a little while and then went to bed.

Tuesday June 10th:Speyer!
We woke up and met John at hauptbahnhof at 11 to go to Speyer for the day! We took the train and got there around 12ish and walked around. We saw the oldest romanesque Cathedral and a Synagogue that was built in the 900s and bombed in 1500s. That was really cool! Then we went and had lunch at a really yummy little outdoor cafe. I had schnitzel and pommes (mmm!) and then afterwards went and had Eis from another little outdoor cafe before heading back to Heidelberg at 4. We got back and Sabina and I went to the hof to get stuff for dinner. We made homemade spaghetti sauce and pasta and then ate around 6 before heading to AJY to print off her boarding pass for the next day :(. We met Davor and John at AJY and then went to the Kleiner Mohr to watch the Sweden-Greece soccer game. Sonja was working which made it really fun :) We watched the game and SWEDEN WON!!! So Sonja gave us four free B52 shots...I'd never had one before and apparently its lit on FIRE and you have to suck it up through a straw really quickly. haha. Crazy! So we did that and then we drank some more and hung out at the bar with Sonja and Anna met up with us and then we went to the Big Mohr and Sabina and I walked around and met a bunch of people b/c she was in her Swedish jersey and everyone wanted to congratulate her-haha. Then afterwards we went back to the Kleiner Mohr had another drink and around 1ish left. John walked Sabina and I back so we didnt have to walk alone and when we got home, I noticed I didnt have my keys. CRAP! So John took us to his room and gave us his bed and he slept on the floor. Such a nice guy. So we went to bed.

Wednesday June 11th:
We woke up at John's around 9:30 and left to head to AJY hoping my keys were there. We got there and walked upstairs and there they were sitting on the desk. So we grabbed them and went back home to get Sabina ready to head back to the airport. I made a typical brunch with Bagels/Lox/Scrambled Eggs and fruit. Nan would be proud :) haha Then around 12 we went to the hauptbahnhof to get her on a train that would take her to the airport on time. :'( We said goodbye and promised we'd keep in touch and it was SO HARD saying goodbye. I already miss her...Stupid Sweden being so far from North Carolina. Damnit. Afterwards I came back, showered/straightened my hair and got ready to meet Anna for ice cream at 4. Then met all the boys at AJY to head to the grocery store since it was Wed and we always cook together on Weds. So we went to the hof and then met Kayla at my apartment. So it was me/kayla/anna/davor/john/pat and we made a HUGE salad and had chicken on the side (for the salad but b/c Kayla's a veggie we put it on the side) and John made homemade spicey couscous. Yum! Then afterwards everyone left and I went to bed.

Thursday June 12th:
I woke up and had praktikum at 8. So I went to Praktikum and was instructed to read them a story and then have them draw animals and label them in English. So that went well! Mark one of the students drew the BEST Donkey I have EVER seen. He's one of the whiney-est kids I've ever met but when i told him that was the best Donkey I've ever seen his entire face light up which was so cute. Martin's starting to warm up to me again, thank goodness, he told me all about his weekend and stuff. All the kids asked if I knew their names and since I've been practicing I now do and they were SO SHOCKED that I knew their names haha. Hanne and Charlenne especially. The two of them loved my bracelet from Spain so they followed me around staring at it all day...and asked me next time I'm in Spain to buy them one. haha. So i left around 10ish and went to the hof. I bought stuff to make chicken salad like Sally with grapes :) and fresh German bread and stuff to keep making Salads because I'm in a big salad kick at the moment. So I came home, cooked the chicken like Mom does except it was harder because I don't have an oven so I had to do it in a pan...then cut it up and made the chicken salad and put it in the fridge and made myself a big salad with cucumbers and stuff for lunch and worked on Francois's story for class. Then around 3ish I left and went to AJY to print off my hw then went to class from 4-6 and at 6:30 I went to hear a German Author give a reading. It was pretty cool, altho it wasn't a fiction book he was reading from it was a "how to write" book. So that made it kinda lame..but it was still cool. I went with Sarah and Francois which was good :) Then afterwards I came home and made myself some Pasta..found out Germany lost to Croatia :( and then talked to Colin for the first time in months which was good. Then went to bed.

Friday June 13th:
I woke up and had praktikum at 8 again. I went and was instructed to teach the kids verbs in English. So I had them cut out the verbs and glue them in their english book and then we played a game where one kid had to pick a card with a verb on it, act it out and the others had to guess it. The first group liked that a lot. The 2nd group thought I was boring and I realized I ended up scolding half of them. Especially this one girl named Marlenne who at first was the quietest girl in the class and I guess is now comfortable and is really obnoxious. She got everyone to play tag instead of listening to me. ugh. So I sent them all back to the classroom and told Frau Zech they just didn't want to play the game. So around 10ish she let me go home. I came home and went back to bed for four hours, and then woke up feeling really crappy. So I made myself some tea and got back in bed and watched movies all day. I ended up watching: 27 Dresses, National Treasure 2 and The Other Boleyn Girl. I also got to talk to Sammy for the first time in a LONG time, which was really good. Then around 12ish I went to bed.

Saturday June 14th:
I woke up and made myself some breakfast and am now updating my blog. I'm cooking dinner with John tonight...a Chicken Curry with Rice and Salad dish. Sounds like something Dad would make ;) haha! Then I really want to go watch the Spain/Sweden soccer game and maybe go out afterwards. We shall see tho. I'm going to try to be better about updating. I officially have 37 days left until I'm home!! And in those 37 days I have Margaret coming/Paris trip with Charis and Margaret/Whitney coming!!/my 21st birthday!!!!/one weekend and I'm HOME!!!! It's gonna fly, I can feel it! HIL may even come visit too!!! Which makes me want to scream and cry all at the same time! I really have some pretty freaking amazing friends ;)!!! AND I get to see KIR SO SOON!!! God...things are just working out :) Well, I think I'm gonna start getting my day going! I miss and love you all so much!!!

Between Midnight and Daylight...

Tuesday May 27th:
I woke up and met Kayla & John for lunch at the Mensa. Then we had a Vollversammlung at AJY at 1:15 so I went to that...stupid pointless meetings. Then afterwards I had class at the PH from 4-6. I was supposed to eat dinner with Charis but she got sick so instead I had Davor/John/Dan over for dinner which was fun. Then after dinner, they left and I hung around and went to bed.

Wednesday May 28th:
I woke up and went to class from 11-1 then had lunch with Jesse. We were on our way to get my sandwhich from AJY and we ran into Sonja, my friend from creative writing. I had skipped the previous week and Sonja was fuming. She stopped me in the middle of the street and was like "Oh my GOSH do I have to talk to you!" So she told me the story of the previous Thursday. Apparently the Prof told the class that I was a spoiled/arrogant/selfish/American Brat who came over here thinking my way of doing things was better than theirs and my idea of doing in class writings weren't actually useful and it was a big waste of time. He also said that even tho he's not a creative writing professor he knows that his way of doing it is how they do it in England and England's education system out beats America's by yards and he told Sonja that he knew what type of education we received in the states. (WHAT THE FUCK??) So Sonja got really pissed b/c she was the only American in the class and simply sat there not saying anything. Well, this DOUCHE-FUCK named Matthias turns to Sonja and was like "American-I want you to read this." and flung his in class write at her. So instead of blowing up and slamming him, Sonja simply said "I'm sorry. I can't write today." and got up and left class. Well, she later found out that the Prof told the ENTIRE class that her boyfriend broke up with her and thats why she walked out of class crying. Sonja was irate. So we came up with the decision to go to class dressed as AMERICAN as possible/walk in with Starbucks/show up late. It was going to be classic! Then I went to the grocery store and had Kayla/John/Anna/Davor/Dan/John over for dinner again. We made homemade kasespatzel and then went to investigate the "night life" here on a Wednesday night. We went to Max Bar for a drink and then around 9pm I headed out to come home because I had praktikum early the next morning.

Thursday May 29th:
I woke up and had praktikum at 8. I got to the school and was instructed to tell the kids a story that connected all these stickers and the kids had to pull the stickers off and lay them on this board thing in correspondance with my story. Needless to say it didn't work so I simply taught them the words for each of the stickers and had them repeat them back to me two or three times and then the kids got to put the stickers were they wanted too. I left around 10ish and headed home to shower before meeting Kayla/John for lunch at 12ish. After lunch I had Pop Musik and then...I had to meet Audra at Starbucks to prep for class. I was wearing my jean skirt, rainbow flip flops, pink Ralph Lauren Polo, Yankees cap, pearls, my coach purse and sunglasses. So Audra met me at Sbux at 6 and we got our coffees and then went to class and got there like 5 minutes late. Sonja wasn't there, so I was like "great..its just us." Well, 20 minutes late she walks in and was like "sorry the line at McDonalds was just WAY to long". (hahaha) So all three of us had our starbucks and we were sitting there speaking to each other. Then we got split up into "reading" groups and Sonja/Francois/Sarah and I were in a group with H.P (Hans Peter..not sure if I've written about him, but he's the "leader" of their little German pack. He writes the WORST stories I've EVER read. They're all about this stupid wars that take place 20,000 years in the future on a planet not named thats similar to Earth but not earth and he doesn't know anything about any of his characters except that they all speak the same. HORRIBLE!) and this other weird chick and H.P. had a new update on his 20,0000 year future war WOOO so Sonja/Sarah/Francois and I were really excited. Not. I've never seen 3 people SO bored in their life. When it was time to give criticisms H.P. rebuffed everything the four of us said and only listened to what his little fan club told him. Sonja described the class in a very accurate way. its simply a class where the 7 Germans who've been there forever can get a nice little pat on the back and be told that they really can write and they really are good-even tho they suck. Well, after class Sonja/Sara/Francois and I went to Alfredo's for dinner together. It was SO good. I finally feel like I have friends in my crw class :)! Thank god. Dinner was amazing. We talked for two hours and then afterwards, Sarah went home but the rest of us went to the Wartburg's Bar abend. It was a pool party theme and they had a big blow up pool filled in the basement (I thought it was gross b/c the floor down there is NASTY and people kept getting in and out of the pool and..ew..) and almost all of AJY showed up. So I hung out with Sonja and Anna/Kayla/John Gamble/Eric/Nelly left to go to The Villa and I stuck around. Pat bought me a Vodka-Lemonade which was actually pretty good but I was so tired I could hardly drink it so I gave a bunch to Davor. Then at about 12ish Sonja/Francois and I left. Francois walked me to the Villa so I could meet up with everyone else and then I sat there waiting until they were ready to go and left around 2 and walked home with Kayla/John.

Friday May 30th:
I slept in and then took my computer to Starbucks to write for a while. I left starbucks around 4ish and went to AJY to see if people were up for doing dinner together. I ran into John and he agreed to meet at my place around 730. It started to look gloomy outside so I decide it may b time to head back. I left AJY took the bus to Bismarckplatz and as I got off the bus the sky opened and BUCKETS of rain fell. I was panicking and ran under one of the little "houses" to wait for the 26 tram. I had my computer and did NOT want it to get ruined. :( So the tram pulled up and I got on and then road it to my stop-got off and it was still pouring so instead of walking in the pouring rain home, I waited under the tram-stop and got back on the next one and road it all the way to the end. I then asked the drive if I could stay on the tram until it got back to Ringstrasse and he said "sure" so I sat and read for a while and then road the tram started moving again. Well we got two stops away from Ringstrasse and there was a dead tram stuck on the tracks. It had gotten struck by lightening and wasn't able to move. So instead of just waiting, everyone on my tram got kicked off and had to wait for a bus to pick us up. A sketchy Turkish man asked if I wanted to share his umbrella so I did and we stood in the rain waiting for the damn bus. Then the bus showed up, we all piled on and continued on the way. We passed a building that had been struck by lightening and was on fire, a huge car accident and finally pulled up to Stadtwerke (where the Hof is located) so I got off and booked it into the Hof to buy something for dinner. I was drenched. I walked around and bought spaeztle and chicken nuggets and then bought two plastic bags so I could wrap my computer in one and carry the stuff home in one. By now it had been over an hour and a half from when I had left AJY. Fabulous. As I was walking into my apartment complex, I ran into Kayla and John who had just come by to drop my cell phone off which I had apparently left at AJY. Oops. So they stuck around and we shared the spaetzle and chicken nuggets which was yummy and then we left and headed to The Central Pub across the street to play pool/fooseball and have a drink before heading to Vetters. We went to Vetters to get John Gamble his Mass before he had to leave the following morning :( and then afterwards we had Big Pommes and a Doener (I don't know if I've talked about these yet...but they are these sandwhich things that are filled with meat thats legit sliced off a rotating spit. The meat is disgusting looking and they sandwhiches are then filled with a million veggies and its in a bread thats kinda a mix between a tortilla and a pita bread. I don't like them.) and then we all took the Moonliners home around 3ish.

Saturday May 31st:
I woke up and met Kayla Marie at the Hauptbahnhof around 12ish to head to Mannheim for the day. We were in search of a place that does bikini waxes (eek!) and I also needed to find somewhere to get my eyebrows done. We walked around all morning and couldn't find anything. So around 3 we stopped and had a sandwhich and then headed back to Heidelberg. On the bus to Uniplatz from Hauptbahnhof we bumped into American Mormons who were here on their missions. We talked to them for a while and they all seemed SO YOUNG, and SO homesick. Then we got off the bus and walked Hauptstrasse for a while shopping and then went to AJY. We talked to John about making dinner together and all met at the Hof at 530. We got stuff to make a chinese stirfry and rice and headed back to my place. We made the most AMAZING dinner! John is really a good cook! Then afterwards we hung out for a while and Kayla left to go to sleep and John left around 1ish.

Sunday June 1st:
I woke up and had to head to Kayla's to bake a cake for dinner that night. I got to Kayla's and realized Id forgotten the eggs so Anna came over with eggs and I made yellow cake from complete scratch (GO ME!) Then we headed back to my place and I had Anna/Jesse/Pat over for an Elon-PJAB dinner. It was alright. Anna and Pat made the Schnitzel and Spaetzle and Jesse and I had to make a gas station run to get drinks for people. Then we ate and around 7:45 everyone left. I had thought it'd be cute to have the same dinner we had last spring with the friendship cake but all this dinner did was make me realize just how much we've all changed since then and how different we all are now. It was an awkward dinner and I sorta regret having it be a repeat of that one meal :\. After they left, I read for a while and then went to bed.

Monday June 2nd:
I woke up and met Anna for lunch then went to the PX to buy some travel size stuff for Spain! Then came back and decided to cook myself a big bowl of pasta and I watched Juno and part of 27 Dresses before going to bed. Very uneventful day.

Tuesday June 3rd:
I woke up and had class from 11-1. Then I met Jesse for lunch at 1ish at the Mensa which was really good-I miss her a lot. And then I had coffee with Maressa at 2 for the first time. That was SO fun! We had such a good time :) Then I left at 3ish to head to the bank to pull money out and then class at the PH. After class I headed to the Hauptbahnhof to meet Charis to look into Paris tickets. Train tickets were RIDICULOUSLY expensive. ugh. So we decided to look online for flights or buses. So we came home and found a bus that would get us there for 40 or 70 euros depending upon when we left! So that was cheap so we're doing that! Then she left and I began to pack for SPAIN! Then I showered/got ready for bed and fell asleep.

Don't Blink...

Holy crap I've been bad about this...let's see...

Thursday May 8th:
So internet went down the day before and it was UNBEARABLE. I talked to my roommates and none of them would get their acts together to fix it. So I skipped praktikum and slept in, then went and spent a good part of the day at AJY then had class from 4-8 and came home and had Davor/Charis over to hang out and chat for a while. It was really fun getting to spend time with them b/c itd been SO long since I'd seen Charis. So they stayed until about 11ish and then went to bed.

Friday May 9th:
I woke up and went to Praktikum from 8:30-10 then came back and showered and met Becca at H&M. We shopped for a little while and then went to Rossi's to have coffee before seperating to get ready to go lay out by the Neckar. On the way I got whistled at by a car full of American soldiers who clearly did not realize that not only did I speak English but I was American. Ridiculous. So I got to the Neckar and Pat/Becca/Babsi/Jasmin/Davor were there, so I laid my blanket next to Davor and hung out with him until Ayo (my Nigerian friend who threw the AWESOME party a few months back) came over and talked to us for a while. Then Davor and I got sick of laying out in the sweltering heat so we left to go get Ice Cream and hang out for a while. We had ice cream and then went to AJY and then went to Dan's for dinner. John made Goulash and Pat/Dan/Davor/John and I all hung out at Dan's afterwards until 11ish when we went to the Wartburg because Alex Heller was coming back!!! We hung out at the Wartburg until about 1 and then went to Big Pommes to get french fries. Dan ended up hugging Becca goodbye and spilled her pommes all over her and the worst part was that she had ketcup and mayo on hers. Oye. So her new outfit she'd just bought with me-was ruined. So Dan felt AWFUL and I tried to help her clean up and it just needed to be tossed in the washing machine so she went home and we all went home. We discussed going to the zoo with Alex the next day so Becca said she'd call me and we said goodnight.

Saturday May 10th: The Start Of Drama...
I woke up to Charis's phone call around 12 asking if we were still gonna go shopping! So I got up and threw clothes on and we left to start our day of shopping before going to the zoo with Pat/Alex/Becca/Davor around 2ish. Charis and I went up and down Hauptstrasse and I got a new huge purse (Aly-it's SO big! U'd b SO proud! haha) and then went to Alfredo's for lunch which was UNreal!! SO good! Afterwards we got Sbux and then decided we'd figure out why Becca hadn't called, so I texted her. No response. So I texted Alex...no response. So we went to AJY to see if anyone was online and Davor was. We also ran into Dan who told us that he had talked to Pat an hour earlier and they were at the zoo when he had talked to them. So I talked to Davor and he hadn't been informed about the zoo either. So we got upset and Charis decided that we'd go to the zoo regardless. So Dan/John/Charis/Davor and I went to the zoo. On the way there Becca called and apologized for 'forgetting to call' and then we talked to these two awesome transients who've lived all over Europe and speak eight different languages. Then we got to the zoo and we ran into Becca/Pat/Alex and that was awkward so we quickly left them and went into the zoo. Despite it all we had a really GREAT time! So afterwards we were supposed to go to the Wartburg for a cook out so we went to the Hof to buy grilling supplies and halfway through finding stuff we decided screw it and we'd cook at Dan's and have breakfast for dinner. So we bought bacon/eggs/toast/sausages/hashbrowns/orange juice and were all really excited about it! So we got in line and Davor got a text from Pat that read "I was informed that there wasn't to be an American Invasion tonight. Only 5 Americans. And if you come, you have to speak German." So we all got really upset/pissed off and decided fuck them and we weren't gonna go. So we went back to Dan's and made dinner and then hung out and decided we'd go to Vetters for beers. So we went to Vetters and John started talking to these older guys about the 2nd Amendment and this guy passed out on the bench and Davor/Dan built card castles out of the coasters and I TOTALLY kicked ass at the coaster flip trick. Wa ha ha! Then around 2ish we left and went home. On the way home, John decided he was sleeping at Dan's so he walked to Ringstrasse with us. Well, John decided it was a good idea to jump and try to grab barbed wire...so he jumped...then landed on his feet and decided he had to RUN to catch up with Dan and I and he got all the momentum but his feet didn't end up moving so he simply fell down to his knees and then his face/hands. It was HILARIOUS!! Gotta love John!

Sunday May 11th: The Day I Climbed 1180 stairs!!!
We had made plans to climb the mountain in Rohrbacher with John. So around 12ish I had brunch with Dan/John up at Dan's apartment and then around 3:30 we left with Davor and Charis as well. We got there and had to climb 540 stairs straight up. I almost turned back, but Charis took it slow with me and it was QUITE the achievement! We got to the top and walked around for a while and saw two cemeteries one from WWI and one from WWII and then we met this AMAZING horse and pet her and then wound up at a beer garden where we had pommes/beer and just relaxed for a while. It was a great afternoon/evening. Around 8ish we walked back down the mountain and down the 540 stairs again and went to play Pool across the street from my building. It was the first time I've actually played and altho I'm TERRIBLE it was really fun. Then around 10:30ish we decided we'd go to the american diner-Mandy's-and get burgers/fries and milkshakes. Mmm! Then we left and went to bed.

Monday May 12th: SCHWETZINGEN CASTLE!
I woke up and still had no internet so I went to AJY to check mail/send emails and such. Ended up having a fight with Patrick and then Davor showed up so I signed off and went to get Ice Cream with Davor. Then at 3 we headed to hauptbahnhof to head to Schwetzingen for the day. We loaded up on snacks at the hbhof and then boarded the bus that took us there. We got off and went straight to the castle! We bought tickets for the gardens and spent the whole afternoon walking around the gardens and soaking in the beauty :) It was perfect. Then around 6 we headed to a beer garden and had a drink and then took the bus back at 7:30. We decided we didn't feel like cooking again, so we went to Merlin's which I had passed a million times since I've been here but never actually eaten at. It is by FAR my favorite resturant here. They have a freakin' Harry Potter dish! haha! Altho I didn't get it, I got a caesar salad wrap b/c Germans don't eat Caesar salad so the fact that I had it as an option, I couldn't resist. It was pure deliciousness. Then afterwards Davor/John and I went to AJY for a bit then came back to Ringstrasse and I hung out with Davor until Anna came back around 12ish and then went to bed.

Tuesday May 13th:
STILL no internet. So I got up and spent the entire day at AJY. I took my computer with me and attempted to get Internet on it-no luck. Had another big blow out with Patrick which resulted in me crying yet again and then we made up a smidge at least long enough to actually look at each other without looking the other way. Needless to say, I was really miserable. Anna and I had lunch at the mensa and then went to sbux to talk before I tried to go to class at 4 but yet again it was cancelled so I went back to AJY and met Anna/Jeff and we went and had Indian food for dinner. Yum. Then I came back and read for a while before passing out.

Wednesday May 14th:
I got up and had lunch with Jesse at 1. Then after lunch I went to AJY for a while and then tried to lay out with Anna/Kayla/Peter/Nelly but it was gross and semi-rainy. So we left and I came back and showered/cleaned up and such before we all had dinner up at Dan's apartment. Then around 8ish Me/Dan/Anna/Davor/Kayla went to the Altstadt for Ice Cream and then had to drop by the Wartburg which was unbelievably awkward. Kayla needed to see Judith so we went and happened to run into Pat/Becca/Babsi sitting outside talking. So we played the "hey-how are you" game for a while and then tried to get out of there and Becca asked "So you're coming to bar abend tomorrow right?" and i was like "um...I don't know" and she was like "come on!" and i was like "okay-maybe" and she goes "no promise you'll be here." So I promised I'd go and then we left. We went to the pool hall across Ringstrasse and then around 11ish I left and came home and went to bed.

Thursday May 15th:
I woke up and spent all day at AJY using the internet again, went to starbucks to write for a little while and then had class from 4-6 and then skipped creative writing. I decided I'd go home and pack for Frankfurt the next day and accidentially got on the wrong tram. So I took it until the PX and got off at the PX and decided I'd just visit the PX for a little while. So I went in and bought a bunch of new shower stuff which was SO good. She even forgot to charge me for a bottle of facewash-NICE! So that was good and I was able to get SALSA-REAL SALSA too not ketcup with peppers/tomatoes in it! SO excited!! So then Anna/Davor came over and cooked spaghetti with me and then we grudgingly went to bar-abend. We got there and it was already Americans vs Germans+Pat. So Anna/Davor/Maressa/Me/Kayla/John talked while Pat/Becca/Babsi talked. Then we went into the basement and hung out in the same seperate groups. It was unbelievably awkward. Pat was clearly pouting for the majority of the evening and since he had specifically asked me for space, I didn't make any attempts to talk to him at all. That caused an issue when Ayo started talking to me about Pat's lap dance for Sammy and told Pat I wanted him to give me a lap-dance. AWKWARD!!! I thought it was pretty clear that Pat and I were NOT speaking and yet-Ayo clearly didn't pick up on it. So Pat came over and I was like "um no." and I clearly hurt his feelings b/c he glared at me and walked away. I felt horrible. So around 2:45ish we left and I left Pat a note apologizing for the mean comments and we headed home.

Friday May 16th: KATRIN DAY!!!!
So I woke up and had a TON of errands to run. I went to lunch with Anna and some people at the mensa and then went back to AJY to finish sending Katrin studi messages and then headed to hauptbahnhof with Anna to meet Davor/buy my ticket and wait til my train left. I was SO nervous!! I got to Frankfurt around 4 and Katrin was there right as I got off the train! We clicked immediately! It wasn't awkward at ALL! So we left to head to her apartment and talked the whole way there and then we had cake/apple juice with sprudel and then went to dinner around 6ish at her favorite German resturant in frankfurt! Then we tried to go to a movie in English but couldn't b/c there wasn't anything playing, so we went back to her apartment and hung out until bedtime around 12ish. It was great!!

Saturday May 17th: Finally Going Home!
We woke up and went shopping!! She took me to an ENGLISH BOOK STORE!!!!!!!!! She really knew what to do to make me happy!!!! :) I bought the sequel to Kite Runner and probably spent over an hour in that bookstore. Then we walked around downtown Frankfurt for a while and then went to this amazing sushi place! We had great sushi and talked for a while and then at 3 her boyfriend met us at his apartment to head to NEU BAMBERG! Mom and Dad called me while we were driving there and Katrin got to talk to them :) Then we had some car issues and eventually got to Neu Bamberg at 5ish. Loni had NO idea I was coming-haha-so I walked in and she looked at me once and yelled "OH MY GOSH. I JUST KNEW IT! I HAD A FEELING YOU'D BE HERE! COME HERE!" (all in German mind you-she speaks no english). She gave me the biggest hug ever and was SO excited I came and introduced me to her entire family that was there as well. I met Oma/Katrin's sister and husband/other oma/cousin/aunt & uncle. I really felt like a part of the family. It was unreal. Loni served us Spargel Soup, Kroaketen (these potatoes that taste like a mixture of a tatertot and a french fry really good!!) and this awesome meat dish. After dinner we had ice cream and cookies for dessert and then the "kids" (me/katrin/her boyfriend Rouven/cousin Michael) went to the game room and played fooseball! Katrin and I kicked MAJOR butt!! Then we had to leave :( On the way out Loni gave me her card so I could reach her if I needed to and insisted upon paying for my train tickets to and from Frankfurt. When I refused she looked at me and said, "Rebecca. Sei Still." (Which basically means Rebecca. Be Quiet. but not in a polite manner) I was quickly quiet and felt like a child who'd just been reprimanded by her mother haha. Seeing Loni made everything SO much better. Seeing Katrin made everything SO much better. It was by far an unforgetable weekend. We drove back to Frankfurt and they took me to the hauptbahnhof and made sure I was seated on a train. It was so amazing. Then I got back to Heidelberg and Kayla was waiting for me :)! So we walked to my room and talked for a while and then Anna/Davor/Dan/John and us went to the pub across the street and played pool/fooseball for a while and then went home around 1ish. It was an amazing weekend :) AND I got internet when I got back!!! WOO!!

Sunday May 18th:
I went to AJY to meet Kayla for a coffee date around 3:30ish. I talked to a bunch of AJYers and then Pat showed up and I decided I'd break the "non-speaking" issue and said "Hey" and he jumped for it and started talking to me and filling me in on stuff and at 4 I was like "look I'm sorry but Kayla and I gotta go" and left for coffee. Kayla and I sat in Starbucks until 7:30 talking. RIDICULOUS!!! Then I came home and continued working on my paper. Pat IMed me and asked if we could do something just the two of us this coming week-which took me by surprise and made me feel so much better. So we agreed and he said he'd come up with something to do and then we started to talk semi-normally again. Slowly fixing things. Then around 2ish I went to bed.

Monday May 19th:
I woke up and went to AJY to turn my paper into Dr. Tracy and then went to the mensa with Anna. Then I went to the Hof and came back to my room and cleaned and cooked an awesome stirfry for dinner before class at 7. I went to class and watched Great Expectations the old version and it was AWFUL. Then came back and talked to my sister for a while on skype and went to bed.

Tuesday May 20th:
I woke up and had class from 11-1 and then went to AJY to eat lunch but ended up going to the mensa with Dan/Davor/Anna. Then I stayed and talked to Anna for a while and then went to the Wartburg to meet Babsi to go to her psychology class. Ran into Becca as well who insisted I say hi to Patrick so I saw Pat as well and then left to go to class with Babsi. Class was AWESOME. We learned about Anti Social Personality Disorder and Narcissistic Personality Disorder...ALL in GERMAN!!! It helped that I already knew about them, but I definitely understood at least 60% of what the Professor was talking about. And he spoke fast!! He was awesome tho! He showed part of "Girl Interrupted" to give us an example of Anti-Social Personality Disorder and then showed us real life examples such as Jeffrey Dahmer. It was great! Then I ran to Bismarckplatz to catch the bus to take me to the PH for class at 4. I got to class and Gaja was already there (my friend from Italy who's actually English haha) and we talked for a while and then Sarah showed up and we talked for a little while and then class started. Class was alright then we got out at 530 and I texted Becca to see if she wanted to do Ice Cream or coffee just us. So I met her at Rudis at 6 and then we ran into Pat so the three of us did ice cream and around 7ish I went home. I made cheese spatzel which was awful and then talked to people on aim for a while before bed.

Wednesday May 21st:
I woke up and had class from 11-1 and then ran to AJY to eat my tuna sandwhich and then Anna/John and I ran to Bunsen Gymnasium to meet Kayla to go to Rewe to get ready for Dan's party. We bought cake mixes/icings/dinner stuff and alcohol. Then went to Kayla's and baked two cakes and then Anna/John and I left to get ready for the party. We got to Dan's and made a Spinach-Cheese pasta with Dan/Davor/Anna/John/Pat/Kayla/Becca and me and then around 8:30 Jeff/Peter/Maressa/Heidi/Alison/Jesse showed up for cake/celebration!! We had cake and then left around 10ish to head to the Altstadt! We went to Vetters so Dan could get a Mass and then made our way to Ipunkt where we lost half the group. Then we went to Palmbrau Gasse and Kayla felt awful so she went home and 20 mins later Anna/Davor went home so it was just me/Becca/pat/Brett (who we picked up along the way). We hung out there for a while, and Pat almost got beat up for being a "homo" and for dancing on a straight guy and then around 1:30 we headed back to the Wartburg to play Mario Cart. Oye. Then the Germans came back and we went down to the basement to hang out and party some more. Brett and I decided to leave around 3:30ish and Pat told me he was glad we were okay again. Finally, it seems like I matter.

Thursday May 22nd:
I woke up and was supposed to be at the Wartburg at 3 to meet Pat. So I showered/got ready and headed over. I got there and we decided to go to Sbux-which was awkward at first b/c I don't typically sit in a coffee shop with Patrick-especially not my coffee shop. So we talked about dumb stuff and it was just nice to be just the two of us even if we didn't talk about anything of importance. Then after a couple hours we went back to the Wartburg so Pat could eat and I hung out with Becca/Babis for a bit and then left to go see INDIANA JONES!!! I met Anna/Davor/Peter/Dan at 6:30 and we went to Mannheim to see it in English!! SO GOOD!!! I really liked it and then when we came back we went to play fooseball/pool for a while and then I came home and went to bed.

Friday May 23rd:
I woke up and met Anna for lunch/shopping. We went to H&M and I bought black flip flops and then we met Pat for a little while so they could kick the soccer ball around a bit and then Davor showed up and we left Pats to go to Rewe and get stuff to make a homemade Pizza and Caesar Salad. The salad failed miserably because the dressing sucked-but the pizza was unreal! Then we headed to the Wartburg to hang out for a while. That was lame...so we left and came back to my room where we talked/hung out until 3 and they left and I went to bed.

Saturday May 24th:
I woke up attempted to get to the Commissary. Well I got as far as Patton barracks and they told me it was at least an hours walk from there-so I turned around and walked back. Looks like I won't be getting to the commissary. Sorry, Mom. Then I went to the Hof and bought stuff to make Lemon chicken and pasta. I marinated the chicken and then showered/got ready and Davor/Anna came over and Dan came as well as Peter and we ate and hung out and then around 10ish Davor/Anna and I left to go to the Wartburg. We got there and hung out in Pat's room and played games and then shit went down with this dude named Andre who's been causing issues in their house. So Pat got super pissed and riled up so we left and went to Palmbrau Gasse and it was Me/Judith/Becca/Pat/Davor/Anna. This bar was awesome that night! They played good music and Anna/Judith/Pat/Becca and I danced up on the tables/benches and went insane. It was SO fun!! Then around 2:30ish we left and I got home around 3:10 and went to bed. Such a good night out!!!

Sunday May 25th:
I woke up and went to lay out by the Neckar with Peter and Patrick and then Becca/Anna joined us. Then Pat/Becca left and Anna/Peter/Davor and I went to the hauptbahnhof to get dinner from the grocery store that was open there and we made little wurstchens and rice and then hung out for a while and played Mexican Train (yes Mom/Aly...you heard me correct) and I learned how to play Asshole. Then everyone left around 10ish and I watched the season finale of Desperate Housewives *GASP* and then went to bed.

Monday May 26th: TODAY!
I woke up around 11ish and met Anna for lunch at 1 at the mensa. Then I decided I needed a reading day-so I went to Starbucks and read until 5:30 when Charis joined me to chat and then I left at 6 to go to the Hof to get stuff to make burgers for dinner. I had Kayla/John Gamble (her friend from home)/Pat/Davor/Anna/Charis over for dinner! We had home-made hamburgers (that I seasoned and made mmm) and french fries/grilled onions and mushrooms and strawberries with chocolate ice cream for dessert. Delicious! Then they stayed for a while to hang out and around 10:45ish everyone left. Now I've pretty much updated!

Future Events:

I leave a week from this wednesday to go to SPAIN!! I can NOT wait! Kayla and I are going June 4th-8th!! It's going to be UNREAL. I just know it. Then June 8th Sabina flies in!!!!! And she's here until the 11th and on the 12th or 13th Margaret is coming to visit for the weekend!!! I am SO UNBELIEVABLY EXCITED!!!! The month of June/July are going to be SO AWESOME!!! I can NOT wait until Whitney comes July 5th as well! I have 7 weekends left and then I go home-which is SO weird that its so close now. And all but 4 of those weekends I have something already planned. WEIRD! This is really going by fast... and part of me can't decide if I'm THRILLED about that-or if I'm sad its going so fast... well, I'm going to try and be better about updating. I miss and love you all so very much!!!

It's The Simple Things...

TRIP TO EAST GERMANY WITH AJY!

Thursday May 1st:
I got up and went to Römerkreis Sud to catch the 23 streetcar at 7:00am. Shoot me now! I was SO tired! So we got on the bus at 7:20 and I sat in the back with Pat and Davor, Kayla and Anna. It was awesome! Id brought lots of snacks (pretzels, gummy bears, bounty-almond joys, cookies, chocolate raisins, granola bars and water) with me because I knew Id end up feeding the boys and we had a really good time catching up and goofing off on the bus. After 2.5 hrs we stopped at a rest stop and Davor won me a baby giraffe stuffed animal from one of those claw machines!!! I named him Baby Davor and he's SO cute!!!! I'll post pics soon :) Then after 2.5 more hrs we arrived in Weimar. We did a walking tour of the city and then had some free time. So me, anna, pat, davor, and alison went to Geothe's Cafe and had Radlers while sitting around and relaxing. it was really nice. We also had our first Türinger Wursts (i think i spelled that wrong...) but they're white bratwursts and are AMAZING!!! Then around 4ish we got back on the bus and headed towards Jena where our host families lives and where we'd be sleeping every night. We had an hour walking tour of Jena and then at 6ish we went to the resturant where we'd be meeting our families. Kayla and I got placed together (thank god) and so we sat around waiting for our family to arrive. They were the Rudisch family and it was a Mom-Monika, Dad-Wolfgang, daughter-Bekky. We sat and ate together and talked and then around 8ish went back to their house. Kayla and I had our own room off from the main part of the house which was awesome for when we wanted to come home late. The house was one story and on the side of the mountain so they had an AMAZING view of Jena! We dropped our stuff off and then went into the family room and sat around talking and discussing german music and stuff. It was really fun! Then around 12ish Kayla and I went to bed.

Friday:
We woke up and had breakfast with our host family. They bought fresh brotchens, meats, cheeses, jellies, jams, juices and it was AMAZING!! Altho the best part: Host Mommy made Kayla and I lunches! That wasnt part of the deal, that was simply because she didnt want us to have to spend money! No one else was given a lunch except us...we definitely had the best family. They took us to the bus at 9 and we said we'd call when we got back to Jena. Today was the day we went to Buchenwald....oye. We got there and had to listen to a tour guide the entire time which really frustrated me. I wanted to be able to experience it for myself and have time to self-reflect and things and instead I had to listen to this douche go on and on in GERMAN of all languages about what it was like for the Jews who were imprisoned there. I was really upset about the tour...and afterwards we were allowed to walk around so I went into the museum with Alison and Kayla. We walked around for a while and then it started pouring so we ran back to the bus. Our next stop was Erfuhrt. We walked around for a while and then went for Radlers at a resturant outside and waited out the next pouring rainstorm. Then we got back on the bus and headed towards an Italian resturant. We ate dinner and then decided to go to a bar in Jena. So me, kayla, anna, alison, maressa, heidi, eric, pat, davor, Jeff, and dan all went to Rossini on their version of Unterestrasse and ordered drinks and stuff. Pat and Dan were joking around and ended up saying something that really hurt my feelings so Kayla and I left around 11 to go home. That was the scariest walk of my life. We walked through the sketchies part of town and ended up singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star as loud as we possible could to scare away anyone who wanted to bother us. We got home and then immediately went to bed, altho we ended up staying up all night talking which was ridiculous!

Saturday:
DRESDEN!!! We got up and had bfast with our fam and then they dropped us off at the bus to head to Dresden. We slept for the majority of the trip and then woke up in time to get ready and get off the bus. We had an hour walking tour of the city and then were free for 4 hrs to do as we pleased. So Kayla, Anna, Davor, Pat and I went to lunch and then Anna and Kayla left to go visit a turm and the boys and I went and got drinks and then went across the bridge to sit by the river and soak up sun and relax. It was awesome. After a while Anna and Kayla joind us and the five us played a million rounds of 20 questions and the Celebrity Matching game. Then at 4 we left and went to see this giant panoramic of Dresden. Then we went to the Schiller Garten for dinner and I had my first official German Chicken!! WOO! They grill it SOOOO yummy here! So after dinner we went back and Kayla and I called our Host Dad and he picked us up and we went home and hung out with the fam before going to bed.

Sunday:
We woke up and had our last breakfast with our fam :(. Our Host Mommy had bought us all these little presents! We had a bunch of cookies-apples-sandwhiches-gummies for the ride back and our sister gave us a mix cd of all her favorite german music! It was AWESOME!! Then the took us back to the bus and said goodbye to us while we boarded the bus. We headed towards The Bachhaus and The Wartburg. The Wartburg was where Martin Luther lived...which was kinda cool. I didnt go to the Bachhaus because I couldnt see another museum-I was simply toured out. So we hung around and stuff and then took the bus back. It was a 4 hrs trip back to Heidelberg and Ive never been so glad to be home again. I had an AMAZING time but it was really nice to get away from all of AJY after being together for SO long. We got home around 8ish and I unpacked-cleaned up and went to bed around 12ish.

Monday:
I woke up and met Anna for lunch and then went to Handelshof and did some grocery shopping before coming back to AJY to meet Davor for ice cream at 3. Then we officially got thrown out of AJY for speaking English to each other and ended up going to Hard Rock for snacks and drinks until 6ish. Then Jesse and I decided not to go see Jane Eyre so we ended up talking until 730ish when I went home to clean up and head up to Dan's apartment with Charis, Dan, Davor, John and Anna. We hung out for a while and then around 12ish I came home and went to bed.

Tuesday:
I woke up at 11:30 and then met Anna and Kayla for lunch at 12ish. Then I ditched our AJY meeting and went to Starbucks to read-critique poems-write for a while. I wrote Pat a really long letter and then came back to drop it off in his mailbox before heading to the PH for my meeting with Judith before class. We talked for a half hour and then I found out class was cancelled-again, so I jumped the bus and went back home. I talked to Anna for a while online and then passed out around 9ish after watching all the latest Desperate Housewives and attempting to find Greys online.

Wednesday:
I woke up and went to class at 11. Then had lunch with Anna at the mensa and then ran home to change into my swimsuit and grab stuff to head to the Neckerweise to lay out with Kayla and Anna. I got a call from Pat and Becca and they decided to join us. We all laid out for a few hours soaking in the sun and at 5 Kayla and I left to head home-shower-start cooking. Davor, Pat, Kayla and Anna came over around 7ish and we made Fettucinni-Chicken Alfredo, grilled veggies and the best part:DESSERT!! We all helped make homemade whipped cream and fresh strawberries! SOOO yummy!! Then we cleaned up and headed upstairs to Dans apartment to hang out with him and John for a while before we all left to go home and sleep.

Thursday:
I woke up at 630 and decided I couldnt make it to praktikum today so I skipped and slept until 11. Then I came to AJY because my internet at home is officially not working-fabulous. So I came to AJY and then had lunch with Kayla and Jeff at the mensa and then had ice cream with them as well as Dan and Davor and Jeff's extremely attractive sprachpartner, Marcus. mmm! Then I came up to update my blog and to catch up on all the work for friends that Ive promised Id do. Ive got class at 415-8 and then I have the option of going out or simply going home and going to bed. Im supposed to go to the school tomorrow, but Im thinking about emailing her and telling her Ill just go next week. So well see how that goes. Anyway, Im officially caught up! Sorry it took SOOOOO long but things here have been kinda crazy hectic! I miss and love everyone so very very much!!!

Got A Little Crazy

Friday April 19th:
So today I went out and met Becca for coffee at 430. We ended up not having coffee, instead we got Ice Cream and Crepes, YUM! We talked for a couple hours and she told me that ALEX HELLER from Elon was coming down to visit for the weekend!!!!!!!!! Pat had told me that he was thinking about coming, but had never actually said he definitely was so I knew immediately that the weekend was going to be fantastic!! Becca and I walked around and she took me to this awesome Asian store that sells basically everything and then we went back to Wartburg to wait for Alex to get there! We got there and Pat/Davor were playing Mario Kart so they came in and joined us and we ended up playing the "Which 3 ______ would you take, if you were stranded on a deserted island?" for almost 2 hours and it was really interesting the different answers everyone gave (including Pat's Brad Pitt answer hahaha). Then around 8ish Alex shows up!! He dropped his things off and at 9, Anna came and we all went to Vetters for dinner. Vetters is a resturant that brews their own beer and has the strongest beer in the world. It's something like 36% alcohol or something like that. It tastes like ASS tho...and looks like you're drinking dark blood. YUCK! I had schnitzel and really good potatoes and a Radler-which I think is a beer mixed with lemonade. It was REALLY good! We finished dinner at 10:15ish and went back to Wartburg to get ready to go out to UntereStrasse. We played Kings/F*** the Dealer and then went out! We went to Ipunkt for a while and it was too crowded so we left and went to Die Kleine Mohr (The little Mohr) instead. We sat around this big table, me, pat, becca, anna, kayla, dan and davor, and ordered drinks and talked until about 3ish and then went back to Wartburg where we ran into John/Jeff/Alex/and Judith! We stayed til a little after 4 and then left to walk home. It was a REALLY good night! :)

Playing F*** the Dealer at Wartburg!

Me and Kayla at Wartburg :)

Aw, love them! Alex, Becca, Me at Kleine Mohr!

The Elon Gang!! Anna, Pat, Alex and Me!

Saturday:
I woke up and met Becca at the Wartburg around 1ish so that we could go meet Alex/Pat somewhere in town. Well, they showed back up at the Wartburg before we could leave so we ended up sitting around for a while trying to figure out what the hell to do with the day. It was rainy/gross outside so "exploring" wasn't exactly a great idea. Well, we decided that Becca and I wanted ice cream/crepes again so we dragged the boys towards the Alte Brucke to our Ice Cream/Crepe place :)! I got my Chocolate/Coconut ice cream and Becca got her crepe and then we walked over to the bridge to take pics! Then we were FREEZING/wet so we went into my favorite little coffee shop for coffee and it was AMAZING!! I got a Latte Macchiato and gosh was it good!!!! We hung out there talking to the Barista for a while and then went decided Becca and I were gonna cook the potato dish again. She and I went to Rudis to get the ingredients and then went back to the Wartburg to cook while the boys "worked out" haha. It was so 1950s-ish...the women in the kitchen-the men doing their "male bonding". We ate around 7ish and then started getting ready for the night. We played more card games and stuff and at 10 we went down into the basement Bar for Chrissi's birthday party. Chrissi is a girl who lives in the Wartburg and it was her bday so they were throwing her a party, and we decided to go for a while before heading to Zieglers for a night of dancing. It was me, Becca, Babsi, Pat, Alex, Davor and Anna. We hung out there until about 12ish and then trekked to Zieglers! We had a BLAST dancing at Zieglers and around 3ish left and went home to bed.

Sunday:
I woke up around 12ish and went to meet Pat/Alex/Anna at AJY at 3:00 for ice cream and our last day with Alex. I got Kinder Schokolade Ice cream and it was just eh...which was too bad haha and then we walked around Hauptstrasse for a bit and I went home while they climbed the mountain b/c everyone knows I do NOT climb mountains unless there's a really good reason-and this time, there wasn't haha. So I went home, uploaded pics and then walked back to Hauptstrasse b/c I'd left my tram ticket at home. I met them at Pizza Hut and then said goodbye to Alex and came back home and spent the rest of the evening relaxing/doing hw and stuff. Uneventful.

Monday:
I woke up and met Anna for lunch at the mensa and then went to H&M to shop for a bit. I bought the CUTEST black dress with white polka dots :) Then I went on an adventure to find Muller's Copy Center, where I had to pick up my packet for American Short Stories. It took me about an hour to find it, then I came back and got tokens from my hausmeister for doing laundry-thank god. Then I made myself the BEST spaghetti I've ever had!! It was SO good the sauce I bought was just unreal! Then at 6ish I left b/c I THOUGHT I had class...but apparently they cancelled it so we didn't have class. Lame. So I came home and wrote Alycat the longest email EVER and then went to bed.

Tuesday:
I woke up and went to AJY at 12ish to have lunch at the mensa with some peeps and then I got my PACKAGE FROM MOM!!!!! AND it had my copy of UNACCUSTOMED EARTH IN IT!!!! I was SO excited! I ripped open that box and took the book out and left to go to Starbucks to read. I had to reread Tim O'Brien's "The Things They Carried" and map-it out for my American Short Stories later that day, so I worked on that and then started Jhumpa's latest work of brilliance :)! I was reading for maybe an hour when Alex from AJY started calling my name. So he came over and sat down next me and we talked for about an hour. Apparently he's a closet writer! How exciting!!! We talked about writing and stuff and then books and our little "escapes" to starbucks where people can't find us and then after an hour he left. It was a really good chat :) I like that kid a lot, he's really sweet! When Alex left, I packed up my things and headed to PH for class. Class was really funny. Since I'd clearly read/workshopped "The Things They Carried" I basically led the discussion about it. The Prof had NEVER heard of the spiral aspect to the story, and she was literally shocked when I mentioned it. (THANKS TITA :)! ) Then she had us map-out the story, which I had already done b/c you can't read "The Things They Carried" without mapping it out-there's just too much detail. So I sat and waited while everyone else mapped it out and then she had us pick a character and describe the things they carried and how it related to them...so I picked Kiowa b/c he's always been my favorite. It was just really funny listening to others opinions of a story that we've read at Elon at LEAST three times. We got outta class at 530ish and I headed home.

Wednesday:
I woke up and left the apartment at 10 to head to AJY before class at 11:15. I met Kayla at AJY and we started trying to figure out where we wanted to travel just the two of us. We agreed to meet up at 1:30 again after classes got out and really sit down and plan. So I went to MediaCulture-the one class that I REALLY hate, and then went to the Mensa with Sarah, Anna, Jesse, and Dan. Then at 1:30 I left to meet Kayla at AJY. We messed around with Ryanair and decided upon VALENCIA,SPAIN!!! We're going June 4th-8th and it's going to be AMAZING laying out on the beach drinking cocktails and wearing dresses/bikinis again! God, I can NOT wait! So we booked that and then I hung around AJY for a while and Davor showed up and hung out with me for a while and then Pat came and the three of us chatted for a while before Pat left and Davor and I went to go get Davor a haircut. We went to a place on Plock and ran into Alex on the way and walked with him to his french class. We got Davor's hair cut and then went to AJY to fix it since they'd blow dryed it and he HATED that. haha. So then at 7 we went to Wartburg to have dinner with Becca/Babsi/Fab/Pat/and Becca's friend who was visiting. Becca took us to her favorite Chinese resturant and we had 8 different dishes including Duck/Chicken/Pork/Beef/Eggplant/Noodles and rice and we all ordered drinks-I was the only one who got a coke instead of a beer and got laughed at...:( The food was AMAZING and Becca had ordered all of it in Chinese! She's SO awesome...blows my mind sometimes. We were there til 10ish and then went back to Wartburg where I hung out until the time my tram was gonna leave and I walked back to Bismarckplatz.

Thursday:
I woke up at 6:30 to get ready for my praktikum. I went to the school and the class had to practice their song again so I got to hear them sing and do the hand motions this time which was SO adorable. Then Frau Zech split the class into two groups and I read them English stories including "Brown Bear Brown Bear, what do you see?" haha. Then I went upstairs and it was Erick's birthday, so his Dad brought big pretzels in for every kid to have one, but not enough for Frau Zech or me, so Charleene gave me half of hers which was SO sweet :) After the pretzels and birthday celebration I left and headed towards AJY. I putzed around for a while and then had Pop Musik at 4:15 with Nelly and the rest of AJY. After Pop Musik I booked it to CRW and was bombarded when I walked in. The Prof had sent everyone down to the classroom (typically we sit in seperate rooms to critique/read each others works in small groups) and he said "Alright, Becca has a few ideas on how to fix our class. Becca?" *GASP* I couldn't believe it, I was totally caught off guard. So then I basically was like "I want to see if there is anyway that we can get each others pieces of work in advance so that I can sit down and critique them before class that way I dont have to give bad feedback since I havent had time to digest them..." and the 7 old people (as in the people who've taken this class for 3 or more semesters) jumped down my throat. It was a war between the oldies and the newbies and the oldies REFUSED to compromise. I got REALLY irritated and left class shaking. I went to AJY to meet Kayla and we went back to Dans apartment where Dan-Davor-Anna-John were cooking dinner. So I helped cook and vented to Anna and then Sonya from crw said to go to the Kleiner Mohr for drinks so I dragged everyone to the Kleiner Mohr and Pat-Becca-Babsi showed up as well. Pat and I kinda have been having a falling out so I was really sad-upset with the way things were going and the added annoyance of the crw class just made things worse. So Sonya made me take a Kamikaze shot (SO GOOD) and I had two Strongbows (YAY KIR!) and then at 12 left and went home. Not good.

Friday:
I woke up and met Kayla at 11ish to go shopping. We walked around until 12ish and had lunch with Anna at the Mensa and then went to H&M where I tripped and sprained my ankle (Not the same one as last time-thank god). Then I went to Wartburg at 2 and met Becca for coffee. We went to sbux and sat outside for a while talking and then at 315 I went back to Wartburg to talk with Pat. We talked about somethings and fixed some stuff, which was good and necessary. Then at 4 he left and I went back home to shower-get ready for later that night when we were gonna party at Wartburg. I got back to Wartburg at 7ish, ate dinner with them and then started drinking-playing drinking games and such. It was really fun! Then at 12ish, all the boys left and me-becca-babsi decided to stay in and have girl-talk night. Probably one of the best nights here in HD. Because of my ankle, we used Patrick's room to talk and we ended up talking-crying for a good solid 2 hrs and then around 2:30ish the boys came back and we went home.

Saturday:
I woke up and Kayla came over and we attempted to steal my music onto her jump drive. That took until 5ish when we decided we'd just meet up l8r at the Wartburg. So I had dinner with Dan and his friend John who was visiting from Italy and then at 7ish I met Kayla at Bmarkplatz and went to the Wartburg to hang with everyone. We ended up sitting around-talking-watching movies and at 12ish we left. Uneventful day.

Sunday:
I woke up and my foot was ALL better! woo!!! So Kayla and I went for a long walk around town. It was GORGEOUS! The first official dress day of the summer :)! We got ice cream and walked by the Necker (river) and then went back to Hauptstrasse insearch of a smoothie and they have NO smoothie places...so we bought fresh fruit and went back to my apartment and made smoothies before Dan/John/Anna came over for dinner. We all made dinner at my place and then sat around for a while before everyone left and I went to bed.

Monday:
I woke up and putzed around for a while, did my laundry and stuff and then decided that I owned Pride & Prejudice so I skipped class and stayed in bed and watched it in my room. Then at 10ish Davor imed me and told me to go over to Dans apartment, so I left my room and went to hang out with them at Dans for a while before coming back around 1ish and going to bed.

Tuesday:
I woke up and had class from 11-1. I got to class and we discussed Pride & Prejudice and then had to pick our books that we wanted to present on. So I was in the front of the line and told them I wanted Great Expectations and then these three b*tches said 'well we live together..we should get to do GE.' So the stupid professor gave them that book and I got stuck with a random book. Great. I was LIVID. Thats the whole reason I took that stupid class was to get to do GE. Classes here just royally SUCK. So after class I had to RUN to AJY to make our weekly meeting and it was ABSOLUTELY pointless. Then I had one of my "mood swings" and ended up running to catch the bus to get away from AJY as fast as I could. I spent the next hour crying to Mom via skype before I left to meet Judith at the PH before class at 4. I talked to Judith for a half hour, then went to class and met two new girls. Ones from American (West VA actually) and the other is from England. So we started talking and then realized class must have been cancelled so we left and made plans to potentially meet up the next day up on the mountain if we all ended up going. After class, I went to AJY and picked up my box from Mom a while back that Id left here and then went home and txted Becca. She had me come over at 6ish and I spent the evening hanging out with her and Babsi and Pat until Dan Davor John and Alex came back. Then around 10ish I left and went home. At home I had a long talk with Anna which was necessary and then went to bed around 1ish.

Wednesday: MOUNTAIN PARTY DAY!!!
I woke up and class from 11-1. Media Culture I swear is the most boring class I have ever had to sit thru. It beats ANYTHING I took in HS for being the dumbest most pointless class ever. I sat thru it and then went to AJY where I met Anna and Kayla for lunch before going to get presents for our host families. We got chocolates from the famous store here in HD and then Kayla and I went to Handleshof to stock up on food for the bus ride. Then we went home and packed and such and I went to Wartburg at 5. I got there and Becca and I had to make a Rudis run to get Sekt and cheese-bread. Then we went back and made buttered pasta for dinner and started playing games and hanging out. Before we knew it tho- ALL of AJY showed up. I felt really guilty because here we are really obnoxious Americans storming in and taking over their German house as if we owned the place. I could tell that the people who lived there were not very happy with us... I just don't understand why its necessary that we all have to party together. I feel like after 2 months we should have our own seperate groups or at least be only HALF of ajy. It was ridiculous. So we hung out there until 10ish when everyone decided to go up the mountain finally. Well, its an hour and a half walk up the mountain and we had to be up and at the bus the next day at 7:20. So I was nervous about not getting enough sleep, and I was pretty...drunk...so I wasnt all that thrilled about hiking up a freaking mountain. Well, I got about 1/3 of the way up and then got really dizzy and sick and Anna and I went back down and went home after talking for a solid 2 hrs.

NEXT Post...EAST GERMANY!!!!!
